Rita was a woman of grace, compassion, and generosity, with a wonderful sense of humor. She lived a long life full of love, selflessness, and a deep devotion to her family, her community, and her Faith. Rita was born on March 1, 1932 in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of John and Minnie (Krug) Riedl. Shortly after graduating as class president and Valedictorian from The Immaculate Conception Academy, Rita married Aloysius Koos on August 8th, 1950 in Dubuque. They had 3 children together before Aloysius tragically passed away on May 25, 1957. With the help of her family and Faith, she raised her three beloved children while working full time and stayed actively involved in the community. Later in life Rita once again found love with Albert “Bud” Mohr. The couple married on June 9, 1978, and celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary together before he preceded her in death.

Rita worked with A.Y. McDonald for over 53 years, beginning as Pool Secretary and advancing quickly to serve as Executive Assistant to Bruce McDonald, and then as Vice President of Public Relations. She was a member of Holy Ghost Church and Rosary Society, past President of the Dubuque Business and Professional Women Organization, a Director of the Dubuque Racing Association, and the 1st Lady Elk of Dubuque. Rita also volunteered countless hours with the United Way, Junior Achievement, and with Mercy Development Community. When she found some free time, Rita enjoyed league bowling, playing cards, and playing piano.  Rita always had a smile on her face and was the biggest cheerleader for her loved ones; her children, grandchildren, and extended family (including friends). She was admired and cherished, and will be deeply missed by all whose lives she has touched.

“She had time for those she thought were overlooked or appeared to be forgotten and made them feel a part of her family. If they were younger, they became another grandchild. Who knows how many grandchildren she actually has but she made them each feel loved and everyone had a seat at her table.”
