Robert A. “Bob” Spoerre, age 91, of Dubuque and formerly of Sherrill, passed away peacefully at 7:15 a.m., on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Stonehill Health Center surrounded by his family.  To honor Bob’s life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Monday, March 4, 2024, at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 5131 Sherrill Road, and from 9:30 until the time of services on Tuesday.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at the church, with Rev. Tyler Raymond officiating.  Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, where honors will be accorded by the American Legion Dubuque Post 6 and the Sherrill Fire Department.  Behr Funeral Home is assisting Bob’s family.

Bob was born on December 27, 1932, in Sherrill, Iowa, son of Edward and Anna (Heitzman) Spoerre.

Bob attended school in Sherrill and Dubuque where he graduated from high school.  He served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict from 1953-1955.  Not long after he returned home Bob married his wonderful wife, Sondra Baker, on February 13, 1956, at St. Raphael Cathedral.  They were blessed with a big, loving family.  Sadly Sondra passed away on November 22, 2012.  Bob was a devoted employee who gave 33 years to the Dubuque Packing Company and another 9 years as a sheet metal worker at Klauer Manufacturing.  He made the most out of his time after retirement doing woodworking, tending to his garden and traveling.  He and Sondra traveled all over Europe and have visited all but 4 states in the US.  Bob was also very active in his community.  He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church, the American Legion Dubuque Post 6 and volunteered with the Sherrill Fire Department for 43 years, where he also served as Treasurer for 15 years.  Bob’s family meant the world to him and he always looked forward to family gatherings.  He was a good man and will be greatly missed.

Don Baker, Richlands, VA.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sondra Spoerre; and his brothers, Edward (Ione) Spoerre, Walter (Margaret) Spoerre and Elmer Spoerre.

Bob’s family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque, Stonehill Care Center, the staff at Oak Park Place and the nurses and staff at MercyOne in Dubuque for all of their care and support over the last several months.
