Robert J. Mulgrew Jr.
Robert J. Mulgrew Jr, 75, passed away suddenly Tuesday, March 18, 2025 while prepping for his next trip to Akumal, Mexico. Born in Dubuque, Iowa on May 20th, 1949 to the late Robert J Mulgrew Sr and Mary Lou (Cawley) Mulgrew, Robert (Bob, Bobby, Uncle B, or Uncle Bobby) was the first born to Bob and Mary Lou.
Privileged to be raised at Whitetop Ranch, with their Appaloosa horses, Robert dedicated much time to his horsemanship skills, becoming a National Champion. At Wahlert High School, he was on the wrestling team, and in his twenties, was a founding member of the Dubuque Rugby Club.
Bob was a lifelong lover of animals and enjoyed spending time with many dogs, cats, and more recently, he nurtured the squirrels and bunnies around his home.
He was drafted into the army during the Vietnam War, and took pride in serving his country.
Having a gift for sales and customer service, Bobby’s work took him across the United States. Having lived and worked in Iowa, Nebraska, Southern & Northern California, as well as spending many years in Akumal, Mexico – he always cultivated new friendships wherever life took him.
In recent years, Uncle B enjoyed traveling back to Akumal, Mexico and visiting with family. He particularly enjoyed visiting the cottage in North Kawartha, Ontario, and spending time in West Rouge.
He is survived by his siblings, Mary (John) Gronen of Dubuque, IA and Michael (Linda Hart) Mulgrew of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; his niece and nephews , Anna Mulgrew (Taylor) Pernerowski and Matthew Mulgrew, and Jack and Will Gronen; and his great nieces and nephew, Charlie and Liam Pernerowski, and Ivy and Delilah Gronen.
