Robert J. Schwendinger, 71, of Epworth, Iowa passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his children.

Visitation for Bob will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Reiff Funeral Home, Epworth, where there will be a wake service at 4:30 p.m.  Visitation will also be held after 9 a.m., on Wednesday at the Funeral Home.

Services for Bob will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Peosta, Iowa with the Rev. Michael Schueller officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Epworth.

He was born September 14, 1952 in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Paul and Eleanor (Becker) Schwendinger.  He is a graduate of Wahlert High School in Dubuque.  He attended Loras College in Dubuque.  On January 25, 1975 he was united in marriage to Diana R. Riniker at St. Mary’s in Manchester, Iowa.  She preceded him in death on November 1, 2006.

He farmed in the rural Epworth area, and was also employed at the John Deere Dubuque Works for 38 years.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish, Peosta.

Surviving are his two sons, Robert (Tina) Schwendinger Jr. of Ankeny, and

Christopher (Jennifer) Schwendinger of Epworth; a daughter, Ann (John) Schieltz of Epworth; grandchildren, Austin, Gemma, and Isla Schwendinger;  Justus Aldrich, Connor Warrick, Addisyn Rainey and Tristan Schwendinger; Abel, Avery, and Aidan Schieltz; his siblings, Kathleen Schwendinger of South Carolina, Carol Timmermann, of Galena, Patricia Weber of Dubuque, James Schwendinger of St. Cloud, Minn., Ronald (Marcella) Schwendinger of Bernard, Karen Schwendinger, of Epworth, Anthony (Kay) Schwendinger of  GA; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Lewis (Theresa) Riniker, of Galena, IL., Vince Riniker of Key West, Kathy (Randy) DeShaw, of Iowa City,  Janet Montover, of Cedar Rapids, Wayne (Vicky) Riniker, of West Burlington, and Ron Riniker, of Manchester.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Paul Schwendinger, Josephine (LaVerne) Fehring, Thomas Schwendinger, Donna (Dennis) Gotto, Joseph Schwendinger, 2 brothers-in-law, Merlin Timmerman and Rudy Weber, Loras and Diane Riniker, Kate Riniker, and a sisters-in-law, Carol Schwendinger and Beverly Riniker.

A Robert J. Schwendinger Memorial Fund has been established.
