Robert N. Slaats
Robert N. “Bob” Slaats, 87, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at St. Mary’s Church in East Dubuque. Burial will be in East Dubuque Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by members of American Legion Post # 787 of East Dubuque.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at the Miller Funeral Home in East Dubuque, IL, where the parish scripture will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Bob was born in Dubuque, IA, on January 11, 1938, the son of Nicholas and Frances (Horch) Slaats. He was united in marriage to Linda (Sand) Flury on August 1, 1975.
Bob was formerly employed at Celotex, Aladdin Magiclean and lastly as a driver for Mercy Pharmacy. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving from 1956 – 1959. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan, enjoyed fishing, gardening, a good game of cards, especially Rummy. He was a fan of Jeff Gordon and would attend the weekly races on Friday at the Farley racetrack and on Sunday at the Dubuque Speedway.
Surviving is his wife Linda; children, Tracy (Kevin) Brockman of Washburn, IA, Douglas (Yvonne) Slaats of Farley, IA, Barbara Flury of East Dubuque, IL, James (Kristi) Flury of Maple Grove, MN, and Sheri (Chris) McLean of Sun Prairie, WI, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; his sister, Evie (Ben) Brady of East Dubuque, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Frances, his stepmother, Rita (Runde) Slaats, granddaughter, Devon Slaats, and siblings, Shirley Slaats, Diane Mellott, Fran Ploessl, Joe Slaats Ed Slaats, and Carol Larson.
