Roger C. Sherman

Roger C. Sherman, age 96, of Dubuque, IA, formerly of East Dubuque, IL, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at his apartment at The Rose.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, February 27, 2026 at St. Mary’s Church in East Dubuque, with Fr. Bosco Aruldoss officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the East Dubuque Cemetery, with military honors accorded by members of the East Dubuque American Legion Post # 787.

There will be a celebration of Roger’s life from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27th at Timmerman’s Supper Club in East Dubuque.

Roger was born in Dubuque on March 11, 1929, the son of James F. and Othilda M. (Goebel) Sherman. He was a graduate of East Dubuque High School. Roger served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On February 23, 1957 he married the love of his life, Helen M. Lindauer at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, North Garryowen (rural Bernard, IA.) He passed away just in time to celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary together. She preceded him in death on September 9, 2018.

He was formerly employed at Sherman’s Gas Station, Trausch Baking Company and retired from Interstate Power Company in 1990. Roger was a member of IBEW Local # 704 and St. Mary’s Parish. He loved hunting, golfing, the morning coffee group at Lacoma Golf Course and played softball for many area teams.

A major highlight for Roger was being able to participate in the 2011 Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

Surviving are five children, Rick (Mary Ann) Sherman of Eldridge, IA, Dan  (Stephanie) Sherman of East Dubuque, Tim (Kelly) Sherman of Dubuque, Judy Sherman of East Dubuque, and Nancy (Mark) Mueller of Kieler, WI; 12-grandchildren, Paul Sherman, Sara (Jeff) Long, Matt (Anna) Sherman, Laura & Ann Sherman, Jessica (Jacob) Puls, Carissa (Austin) Kennicker, Jenna (Matt) Berning, Jason (Taylor) Schneider, Justin (special friend Kelly) Schneider and Nate & Rachel Mueller; 15-great grandchildren, Cody & Noah Long, Madelyn & Micah Sherman, Bo, Charlotte & Margaret Puls, Augustus & Stetson Kennicker, Ava, Logan, Lane, & Annistyn Berning, and Tate & Luka Schneider; his sister, Fay Ann Tracey of Colorado, and two sisters-in-law, Helen (Blonde) Lindauer and Ellen Lindauer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Othilda, his wife Helen, an infant son Joseph, brother, Dick (Maggie) Sherman, sister, Kay, in-laws, Jim Tracey, Ed (Marie) Lindauer, Isabel Lindauer, Don Lindauer, Bob Lindauer, Alice (Jim) Wolf, Mary (Gil) Green, Jane Lindauer.

Roger’s family wishes to thank the nurses and staff from Hospice of Dubuque and The Rose for the excellent care given to their Dad.
