Ronald C. Mahannah
Ronald Curtis Mahannah, 77, of Asbury, died after a brief illness on Friday, March 27, 2026, surrounded by his family at the UnityPoint-Finley Hospital.
Ron was born on August 10, 1948, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Curtis William “Bill” and Gilma May (Carder) Mahannah. He graduated from North English High School and from Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University) in Kirksville, MO. After graduating from college, Ron served two years in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Upon returning stateside, his grandmother set him up on a blind date with a hairdresser who was working in his hometown. A short time later, on September 1, 1974, Ron married Gloria Jean Wilker in Monona, Iowa. They first settled in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and eventually in Dubuque, where they raised their sons Ryan and Kyle and where Ron worked as a fleet manager for Crescent Electric. He retired in 2009.
Ron was a car fanatic and a motorcycle enthusiast. He owned several Harley Davidson motorcycles over the years and was a member of the Mighty Mississippi HOG Chapter. He rooted for the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Green Bay Packers, and loved watching NASCAR. He also enjoyed the noon euchre group at Crescent Electric.
In addition to his wife, Gloria, Ron is survived by his sons, Ryan (Shelley) Mahannah of Rochester, MN and Kyle (Amanda) Mahannah of West Des Moines; and five grandchildren: Ian and Sean Mahannah of Rochester, MN and Kaylee, Aubrey, and Zac Mahannah of West Des Moines. Other survivors include two brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, a nephew and several nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Rodney Mahannah. Additionally, he was preceded in death by his in-laws: Clifford and Darlene Wilker; his great-grandmother Lorene Graham; and several aunts and uncles.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Grand Meadows Center. They also wish to thank the ICU staff at UnityPoint-Finley and surgeon, Dr. El-Hattab.
There will be no visitation, per Ron’s wishes. Private family services will be held at a later date.
