Ronald J. Jaeger, Sr.
Ronald J. Jaeger Sr. 87, of Key West, IA passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Woodlands Nursing Home in Cedar Rapids, IA.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 18th, 2023, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a wake service will be at 2:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 19th, 2023, at St. Joseph Key West Church with Msgr. Thomas Toale officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post #6.
Ron was born on June 5, 1936, in Farley, Iowa, the son of Eugene and Catherine (LaPage) Jaeger. He graduated High School from St. Paul’s in Worthington, IA. He served in the United States Air Force from Feb. 5th, 1957, to Feb. 3rd, 1961.
He married Mary Ann Stuart on September 26, 1959, at Sacred Heart Church in Dubuque.
Ron worked for Oakland Dairy, John Deere and Dubuque Packing Company.
He was a devoted Hawkeye, Vikings and Detroit Tigers fan. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and doing crossword puzzles. He has the best Christmas decorations on Kerrigan Road and was known for making his wooden outdoor holiday decorations.
Ron was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family especially around the holidays. He was an amazing grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by his children: Vickie (Harold) Middendorf, Ronald (Dawn) Jaeger, Randy (Sandy) Jaeger and Rick (Mary Jo) Jaeger. Twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren with two more on the way. He is also survived by his brother Ed Jaeger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary in 2007; his son Steven; his granddaughter Lindsey Jaeger; brothers Jupe (Ulla) and Chuck (Eileen); his sister-in-law Margaret.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of Mercy and the staff at Meth-Wick both in Cedar Rapids for their wonderful care; they also wish to thank their neighbors Bob and Kurt for their friendship.
