Dennis Quint officiating. Entombment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

She was born on June 21, 1938, to Clarence and Emma (Launspach) Langkamp. She married James Chapman on June 2, 1956, at St. Raphael Cathedral just two days after her high school graduation. They enjoyed almost 60 years together before his death on May 19, 2016

Shirley was blessed to have many interests and close friends. She enjoyed playing Euchre and dominoes, her monthly trips to Village Inn, shopping days, and dinners with the ”Holy Ghost girls”. It was rare to beat her at a game of Scrabble. Most of all, her greatest love was her family and being able to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandson. She was a regular attendee at baseball games, dance competitions, bowling meets, school concerts, graduations, and anything else in which her grandchildren participated.

The Catholic faith was her foundation. She worked many years as a secretary in the Holy Family school system and volunteered at St Raphael’s Cathedral as a money counter and back-up secretary.

Shirley is survived by her two daughters Kris Chapman and Terri (Douglas) Kluesner, both of Dubuque; five grandchildren, Nicholas (Maggie) and Michael Mulert, and Justin, Jena, and Aaron Kluesner; great-grandson Alex Mulert; sister-in-law Darlene Chapman; and brothers-in-law Jeffery Chapman and Thomas Piehl, along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; parents, Clarence and Emma; mother and father-in law, Lester and Ramona Chapman; siblings, Leonard, Merlin, Harold, and Arnold Langkamp, and Beverly Piehl; sisters-in-law Delores, Darlene, and Maria Langkamp, and Bonnie Chant; brother-in-law Gary Chapman; and nephew Willy Langkamp.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Stonehill Care Center or St. Raphael Cathedral.

The family would like to thank the staff at Stonehill Rehab and Skilled Nursing, Dr. Mark Runde, and his nurse Julie, for all the wonderful care and kindness they gave to Shirley and her family.
