Sr. Annamarie Kane
Sister Annamarie Kane, BVM, 87, of Mount Carmel Bluffs, Dubuque, Iowa, died Thursday, May 21, 2026.
Visitation will be from 9-9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2026, in the Mary Frances Clarke Chapel at Mount Carmel Bluffs. Sharing of Memories will be at 9:30 a.m., followed immediately by the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial is in the Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Sister Annamarie ministered as an elementary teacher at the Cathedral, Sioux City, Iowa; St. Eulalia, Maywood, Ill.; St. Gilbert Grayslake, Ill.; St. Peter, Skokie, Ill.; Our Lady of Loretto, Hempstead, N.Y.; and St. Charles, St. Tarcissus, St. Robert, and St. Jerome in Chicago. She was elementary principal at St. Joseph and St. Thomas of Canterbury in Chicago. She was a parish minister, social worker and program coordinator for Catholic Charities in Chicago and a social worker for Westshire Retirement & Health Care Centre in Cicero, Ill. She served the BVM Congregation as a driver and receptionist at Wright Hall in Chicago.
She was born Oct. 15, 1938, in New Hampton, Iowa, to George and Gladys (Kelly) Kane. She entered the BVM congregation Sept. 8, 1956, from St. Stanislaus Parish, St. Paul, Minn. She professed first vows on Feb. 3, 1959, and final vows on July 16, 1964.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Edward (Shirley) and Jerome Kane; and a sister Mary Kane.
She is survived by nieces, nephews and the Sisters of Charity, BVM, with whom she shared life for 69 years.
