Steven C. Barton

Steven C. Barton “Crackerjack/Jackson” 66, of Peosta, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center, from a heart condition.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 8, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Peosta. Fr. Michael Schueller will officiate. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Rickardsville. Military Honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League & the Iowa National Guard. Friends may greet the family from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, September 7, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Road, Dubuque, where there will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Steve was born July 9, 1952 in Dubuque, the son of Louis H. and Phyllis (Lenstra) Barton. He married his high school sweetheart, Diane Thilmany on September 5, 1970 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Dubuque.
Steve graduated from Wahlert High School with the class of 1970. He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees Reserve for over 23 years, and also served in the Iowa National Guard.
Steve was a professional truck driver for many years. He was an avid motorcycle rider, and enjoyed traveling to many states with his wife. Doing yardwork and hanging Christmas lights were favorite pastimes for Steve. He loved to socialize, and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.
Steve is survived by his wife, Diane, of Peosta; two sons, Steven J. (Sandi) Barton of Strawberry Point, and Christopher J. (Cheryl) Barton of Dubuque; six grandchildren, Allan, Amber, Brandon, Sydney, Chance, and Silas; three great grandchildren, Kaidyn, Aliyah, and Owen; his mother, Phyllis Barton of Dubuque;six siblings, Michelle (Mike) Gentili of Rockford, IL, JoEllen Hovind of Dubuque, Douglas (Erin) Barton of Dubuque, Daniel (Stacey) Barton of Dubuque, Dale (Rhonda) Barton of Sherrill, and David (Annette) Barton of Dubuque; his mother-in-law, Joyce Thilmany of Dubuque; his siblings-in-law, Pat (Susie) Thilmany of Hudson, NY, Lynn Thilmany of Vero Beach, FL, Dennis Thilmany of Dubuque, David (Lori) Thilmany of Cheyenne, WY; and many nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Louis; his father-in-law, Robert Thilmany; his grandparents; and his great-nephew, Collin Barton.
Steve’s family would like to thank the Centralia/Peosta first responders and the staff at Mercy Medical Center.
