Sylvia Ann Gillies 93, of Dubuque and formerly of Hanover, IL passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024, at Ennoble Manor in Dubuque.

According to her wishes there will be no visitation, a family burial service will take place this summer in Evergreen Cemetery in Hanover, IL. The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, Dubuque, IA is assisting the family.

Sylvia was born on January 19, 1931, in Bradley, South Dakota, the daughter of Ruben and Merle (Frybarger) Gallup. She married Dick Gillies on December 16, 1950, in Clark South Dakota.

They started their life together in Igloo, South Dakota and in 1965 they moved to Hanover, IL. Sylvia later moved to Dubuque in 2010 to be closer to family.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved to cook and play cards.

She is survived by her three children Gene (Debbie) Gillies of Dubuque, Rick (Darlene) Gillies of Anniston, AL, and Jolene (Dale) Horsfield of Ft. Myers, FL. She also has ten grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dick, and a sister Hazel (Merle) Behrends.

Her family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Ennoble Manor as well as the staff of Care Initiatives Hospice for all the care and kindness they gave to her.
