Thomas J. Mitchley

Thomas (Mitch) J. Mitchley, 82, of Asbury passed away on Monday, March 16, 2026 at 11:11am, at MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center in Dubuque.

Private family services with full military honors will be held.

Mitch was born on February 25, 1944, in Dubuque, Iowa. He was the son of Earl and Josephine (Wenzel) Mitchley who resided in Dubuque.

Mitch was a U.S. Navy veteran serving on the U.S.S Albany from June 1962 to March 1967.

After his honorable discharge from the military, Mitch began a long-dedicated career, starting as an apprentice which evolved into a Union Electrician for 41 years.

Mitch had a love for playing baseball and began playing competitively early on his in his youth through his adult years.  After playing for 20 seasons, he was honored to be in the Dubuque Fast Pitch Hall of Fame in 2015.

In more recent years, he became an avid golfer and enjoyed many hours on the golf course.

Mitch had a love for food and would never pass up a good burger.

Mitch is survived by his wife of 32 years, Patricia Mitchley (Brandt, formerly Smith) of Asbury; four daughters Tricia Loso of Dubuque, Lori (Mark) Chapman, of Gilbert, AZ, Karie (Doug) Yenter of Evergreen, CO, and Jolene (Shawn) Memarian of Kansas City, MO; two step-daughters, Jennifer (Brian) Bales of Dubuque and Danielle (Matt) Walsh of Dubuque; 12 grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Rita (Bob) Hartung.

Besides his parent, he was preceded in death by one sister, Diane (Jack) Beatty.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Veterans Freedom Center.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Simina Lewis, Mike Rausch , the Asbury Police Department and the EMT’s, as well as the nurses and staff at MercyOne ER for the care and compassion they provided.
