Verena R. Handfelt, 103, of Menominee, Illinois, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2018, at The Villa at Middleton Village, Middleton, Wisconsin.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Nativity BVM Church at Menominee, with Fr. Stephen Lundgren officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Miller Funeral Home of East Dubuque is serving the family.

Visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday at the Church, where St. Ann’s Society will recited the rosary at 10:00 a.m.

Verena was born on August 30, 1915 in Menominee Township of Jo Daviess County, Illinois, the daughter of Herman and Mary (Imbus) Handfelt.

She was the oldest resident of Menominee, a life-time member of Nativity BVM Parish and its St. Ann’s Society.

Verena worked at home and on the farm. She did housework for area homes and worked at the Nativity BVM rectory for Fr. Al Fitzgibbons.

Surviving is a brother, Edwin Handfelt of Waunakee, Wisconsin, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Alvitus Handfelt and a sister Magdalen Delaney; sisters-in-law, Lucille Handfelt and Evelyn Handfelt, and a brother-in-law, Harry Delaney.
