Vivian E. Moriarty

Vivian E. Moriarty, 92, of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of Frentress Lake, East Dubuque, Illinois, passed away on July 19, 2025. Per Vivian’s request there will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, July 24, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Dubuque, Iowa. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Road is entrusted with the arrangements.

Vivian was born on August 11, 1932, in Dubuque, Iowa to William “Cook” and Genevieve (Cushing) Avenarius. She married Raymond “Ray” Moriarty on September 8, 1951, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Dubuque, Iowa.

She is survived by her 3 children, 3 granddaughters and 7 great- grandchildren; daughter, Kathy (William) Rohner, of Peoria, Illinois, their daughter, Jennifer (J.R.) Koch of Metamora, Illinois, and their sons, Cooper Koch of Iowa City, Iowa and Samuel Koch of Metamora, Illinois; son, Gary (Tanya) of Mesa, Arizona, and Gary’s daughters, Dr. Nicole Moriarty of Hermosa Beach, California, and her two daughters, Leah Horvath and Kaylee Horvath, and Allison (Charles “Chuck”) Browder of Chandler, Arizona, and their 3 children, Ella, Aidan and Kellen Browder; son, Gregg (Diane) of Hot Springs, Arkansas; twin sister, Violet Schilling of Rochester, Minnesota, sister, Sally (Steve) Stillmunkes, of Bellevue, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Marlin Avenarius, of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; son, Kevin; 4 brothers, Bill, LeRoy “Shotz”, Harold “Harry”, Roland “Rollie”; nephew, Randy Avenarius; and niece, Julie “Gigi” Avenarius.

The family would like to thank her sister, Sally, brother-in-law, Steve Stillmunkes and her niece, LuAnne Anderson for all the help and care they provided. In addition, the family is grateful for the care provided by Dr. Mark Runde, and his staff, especially nurse Julie, Dr. John Whalen and his staff, and Dr. Raymond Roewe, and his staff, the staff at Stone Hill Communities, and Hospice of Dubuque, especially Angela, Michelle and Elizabeth.

Vivian thought flowers were a waste of money, so in lieu of flowers memorials may be given to a charity of your choice.
