William L. Folger

William “Bill” Lynn Folger, age 77, formerly of Dubuque, IA, died in Cedar Falls on April 22, 2024.

Visitation will be held for 10:30 am until 11:30 am on Monday, June 17, 2024 from at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Crematory followed by full military honors rendered by American Legion Post #6 and the Mid-Atlantic Region Navy Honor Guard.

Bill was born in Des Moines, IA on March 27, 1947 to Merlyn “Pat” and Gertrude Catherine Folger. He was a proud graduate of Dubuque Senior High School’s class of 1965.  Bill joined the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1970.  He married his love, Patricia “Trisha” Brown, on May 27, 1972.  Bill worked at John Deere in Dubuque and loved the opportunity they afforded him to work with children through John Deere’s classroom mentor program.  Bill was affectionately known as Santa to many families in the Dubuque area. For more than 28 years, Santa visited children and families during the holiday season to bring cheer.  He was an avid golfer and cherished his golfing buddies.

Bill / Pop / Grandpa is now smiling down on his son Benjamin (Julie) Folger of Mt. Airy, MD and his daughter Laura (Chad) Homewood of Cedar Falls, IA; and his grandchildren, Alanna Folger, and Sydney and Carter Homewood; as well as his sisters Judy and Patricia Folger and many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his wife Patricia, his parents and his brother Ronald Folger.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the University of Northern Iowa Dementia Simulation House.  A special thanks to the Dem Sim House for the education, support and love you shared with Laura and Bill and so many more.
