William Steger

William “Bill” Steger, 90, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, at home, after a 3-year battle with lymphoma.

Visitation will be from 1:00-4:00p.m., Sunday, December 14, 2025, at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Road, Dubuque. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30a.m., Monday, December 15, 2025, at Holy Spirit Parish-Holy Ghost Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Frieden officiating. Private Family Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Bill was born on December 29, 1934 to Louis and Edwina (Klein) Steger in Balltown, Iowa.

He was united in marriage to Donna (Petsche) Steger and the two shared nearly 70 years together.

Bill worked at the Dubuque Pack for 43 years.

He loved being on the river, snowmobiling, traveling, and spending time with his family.

In his free time, he enjoyed cheering on the Atlanta Braves and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Donna; children, Mark (Carol) Steger of Dubuque, Connie (Jeff) Burbach of Eagle River, WI, and Cheryl (Paul) Richman of Dubuque; grandchildren, Laura (Royce) Dague, Jason (Torie) Burbach, Amanda Burbach, Andy Burbach, Erica (Eero) Wasserman, Angela (Andy) Vasconcellos, and Krista (fiancé Sebastian) Richman; great-grandchildren, Emma, Will, Maggie, Lucy, Tristan, Dakota, Beau, Everly. Bill is also survived by his brother, Gerry (Connie) Steger; and brother-in-law, Allen Lex.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Arnold (Lillian) Steger, Cletus (Joanne) Steger, and Mary Ann Lex.

Bill’s family wishes to extend a most heartfelt thank you to Hospice of Dubuque and his cancer care team for their kindness, care, and compassion.

A William “Bill” Steger Memorial Fund has been established.

The Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home and Crematory is entrusted with arrangements.
