Carlan E. Koehn

Carlan E. Koehn, age 80, of Scales Mound, IL, passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church at Schapville, IL, with Rev. James P. Mehltretter officiating.  Burial will be in the Scales Mound Twp. Cemetery.

Family and friends may call from 4 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at the Miller-Steinke Funeral Home in Scales Mound, and from 9:30 – 10:15 a.m. on Thursday at the church.

Carlan was born on March 7, 1944 in Freeport, IL, the son of Elfie and Elma (Dittmar) Koehn.  He was a graduate of Scales Mound High School, the class of 1962. On June 15, 1968 he was united in marriage to Eva M. Lawrence at the Benton, WI United Methodist Church, and they just celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary.

Carlan was employed at the John Deere Dubuque Works from Nov. 17, 1967 – March 31, 2001. He was a member of the UAW Local # 94, a former member of the Scales Mound Fire Dept., Scales Mound Lions Club, and BPOE # 882 of Galena, IL. Carlan was president of the Scales Mound Twp. Cemetery Board, and a founding member of the SMRA. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, especially to Alabama, his morning coffee clutch group where a good game of euchre was played, but his greatest joy in life was his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Carlan served in the Army Reserves from 1967 until his honorable discharge in 1971.

Surviving  are his wife Eva; three children, Penny (Jason) Bingham of Galena, Paul (Suzi) Koehn of Janesville, WI, and Christopher (Angela) Koehn of Galena; nine grandchildren, Nate (Katie), Nic (Amanda), Kim (Nick), Haley (Alex), Hannah (Simon), Jenna, Cameron (Haley), Kaitlan and Kristin; seven-great-grandchildren, Dawson, Carter, Mason, Cora, Quinn, Maren and Carson; and many nieces and nephews; his in-laws, Cleo, David (Mary), Jack (Betty), and Reggie (Dar) Lawrence.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elfie and Elma, one sister, Charlus Cox; and his father & mother-in-law, Roy and Marie Lawrence, in-laws, LeRoy, Harry, Mary Kay, Lenny and Lynn Lawrence
