Charles W. Goodwin Jr.

Charles “Chuck” W. Goodwin Jr., 71, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on April 15, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.

Per Chuck’s wishes, a private family burial will be held at Dubuque Memorial Gardens. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is assisting the family.

Chuck was born on September 27, 1954, in Maywood, California, the son of Neldia Jane Eudaley. Al Fitzgibbons was an important part of his life. He was the oldest of three boys and grew up in Durango, Iowa, where he was known for his mischievous spirit.

Chuck honorably enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on March 12, 1975, at Camp Pendleton, California. During his service, he earned the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge and the National Defense Service Medal. After his discharge, he began a career in truck driving and later became a retired owner-operator. Trucking was his passion. He also enjoyed visiting his great-nieces and nephews – Cassidy, Chloe, Caleb, and JJ – in Mauston, Wisconsin.

Chuck is survived by his two brothers, William “Bill” (Patty) Doran and Kelly Fitzgibbons, both of Dubuque; his nieces Shelley Bostic, Stacey Oswald, and Heather Fitzgibbons; his nephew Justin Doran; and many great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jane and Al Fitzgibbons, and his sister-in-law, Jacqueline Fitzgibbons.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at MercyOne Hospital ICU in Dubuque for their care.
