Daniel R. Grass, 75, of Potosi, WI, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Bethany Home in Dubuque.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30th, 2026, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Deacon Mike Timmerman officiating. Military honors will follow by the American Legion Post #6. Private family entombment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Dan was born on July 23, 1951, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Robert and Norma (Reisen) Grass. He is a United States Air Force Veteran serving from 1970 to 1974. He worked with the crew on the SR-71 spy plane and prepared the remote photography on the Black Hawk.

He married Deborah Hird on November 29, 1975, at St. Mary’s Church in Dubuque. Dan worked for the University of Dubuque in Building Maintenance until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0473 of Potosi, and 40 & 8 Chapter 632 in Dubuque .

Over the years, Dan enjoyed canoeing on many rivers throughout the tri-state area, country line dancing at the fairgrounds, camping, and horseback riding.

He looked forward to Tuesday euchre games with friends at Haverland’s in Tennyson, as well as family picnics and time spent socializing with friends and coworkers.

Dan also had a special fondness for his many four-legged companions, including horses, cats, and dogs.

Dan was always willing to lend a hand. A true handyman, he could fix nearly anything—from plumbing and electrical problems to roofing—and was equally ready to tackle jobs such as cutting down trees.

He is survived by his wife Deb; their son Michael; his brother Don Grass; sisters Barbara Sue Grass and Lisa (Gary) Wilming and Charlotte Grass. His in-laws Carol Dix, Darlene Ryan, Gloria Spiegel and JoAnn (Steve) Wordehoff; along with nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father & mother-in-law Walter and Lillian Hird. His sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: June Grass, Judy Winkler, Albert Ryan, Roger Dix, William Winkler, James Spiegel, Robert “Butch” Schubert.
