David C. Gombert

David C. “Dave” Gombert, 68, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa.

A memorial gathering of family and friends celebrating Dave’s life will be held from 3 to 5 P.M. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  The family invites everyone to a meal and reception immediately following from 5 to 7 P.M. at the Eagles Club in Maquoketa.

David Claire Gombert was born on May 10, 1957, in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Owen F. and Delores J. (Clark) Gombert.  He was a graduate of Maquoketa High School.  He married Brenda K. Miller on January 17, 1987, in Maquoketa, Iowa.

Dave worked in a variety of roles over the years, each one reflecting his strong work ethic and practical skills. He first worked for the Army Corps of Engineers and later for Native Veneer as a logger. He then owned and operated Dave’s Radiator Repair Shop in Maquoketa for many years. He later continued his career with Maquoketa Municipal Electric Utilities, and he retired in 2018 from Theisen’s in Maquoketa.

Outside of work, Dave found joy in the simple pleasures of life and in the satisfaction of creating and restoring with his hands. He enjoyed woodworking, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and working on, repairing, and restoring old cars and vehicles. He also liked bartering for vehicles and other random items, a pastime that reflected both his personality and his appreciation for a good deal.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Brenda Gombert of Maquoketa, IA; children, Chad (Amanda) Current of Maquoketa, IA, Stacy Quinn of Keokuk, IA, Jennifer Gombert of Norfolk, VA, and Jamie (Cory) Bellings of Cascade, IA; 4 grandchildren, Alliyah, Payton, Kaycee, and Jaxen; and siblings, Mark (Karen) Gombert of Maquoketa, IA, and Lori Mahoney of Monticello, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant son David Owen Gombert.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Jackson County.
