David R. Lampe

David R. Lampe, 74, of Asbury, died of natural causes on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Luther Manor Grand Meadows with loving family by his side.

Rite of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 15, in the Chapel at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1111 Davis St., Dubuque. Deacon Bill Hicks will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home and Crematory.

David was born on April 9, 1949, in Dubuque, Iowa. A 1967 graduate of Wahlert High School, he earned his B.A. degree, summa cum laude, in English from Loras College in 1971. He subsequently received both the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in English from the University of Iowa in Iowa City.

His career with the federal government spanned some 31 years, and included positions as writer and editor with several Defense Department units, among which were the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Manpower, Reserve Affairs, and Logistics and the Defense Intelligence Agency. In 2008, he retired from the National Transportation Safety Board as chief of the Report Development Division, Office of Highway Safety.

David is survived by two brothers, James (Valparaiso, IN), and Robert (Ankeny, IA). He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Dorothy (Heinricy) Lampe, and two brothers, Martin and John Lampe.
