Family and friends of Duane’s are invited to join in fellowship prior to the service at the church from 2:00–5:00 p.m. The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Duane’s family.
Duane was born on April 27, 1947, in Dubuque, IA, a son to Archie G. and Verna M. (Herbst) Schreiber. He was born with a work ethic that never ceased, coupled perfectly with a love and devotion to his family that never wavered. Duane met the love of his life, Susan D. Allen, early on in life and the two faced the world hand in hand throughout their life together. They were blessed with two children eight grandchildren, and two great-grandsons which the sun rose and set on in Duane’s eyes. Duane was a carpet installer in his younger years, but was a pipe fitter by trade and spent over 32 years at the Dubuque Packing Company before they closed. Duane invested a few years with Willenborg Plumbing as well before eventually moving into retirement. It was not uncommon for Duane to work 7 days a week to provide for his family and he was well known to all who knew and loved him and the kind of man who never stopped when there was work that needed to be done.
In his free-time, Duane was continually working on projects around their home, but if time allowed, working on a few projects down at the family cabin in Lake Delhi was always on his list of priorities. He did his best to make time to get a little boating in also, but again, Duane took great pride in sharing his time and talents in such a manner that blessed his family whenever possible. Duane also enjoyed spending time in the workshop when he could and his woodworking skills were always on display. But, for those who knew him best, quality time with his family was the goal in Duane’s heart and mind and never did he allow anything to get in the way of those memories, love, and lessons. It’s with almost unmendable broken hearts that we must say farewell for now to our esteemed patriarch, but not a day will go by where the memories he leaves behind will surely play their role perfectly just as Duane did while he was with us. Thank you, Duane, for leading by example and creating a legacy which will definitely impact all who are left behind for generations to come. We will miss and love you dearly until we all meet again and are eternally grateful for the 77 years the Lord was gracious enough to share you with us. May the Lord bless you and keep you as we seek peace for our heavy hearts within the difficult days ahead.
