James H. “Mike” Huilman, 71, of Scales Mound, IL, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023 at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna, IL.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Holy Trinity Church in Scales Mound, with Fr. Howard C. Barch, Jr. officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Family and friends may call from 5 – 7 p.m. on Friday at the Miller-Steinke Funeral Home in Scales Mound, where the parish prayer service will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday. Visitation will also continue from 9:30 – 10:15 a.m. on Saturday at the Church.

Jim was born on November 8, 1951 at Hazel Green, WI, the son of William H. and Florence M. (Stephan) Huilman.  He was a graduate of Scales Mound High School, the class of 1969 where he was Valedictorian. Jim continued his education at the University of Wisconsin, Platteville, graduating in 1973 with honors.

Jim was always available to help friends and work on the family farm.

He was a member of the Jo Daviess County Soil and Water Conservation District for many years.  Jim was also a member of the Thompson & Guilford Insurance Board and a member of Holy Trinity Parish.

Surviving are two sisters, Dorothy Huilman of Scales Mound and Mary (Robert) Soat of Galena, two brothers, Charles (Miriam) Huilman of Platteville, WI, and John (Diane) Huilman of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; and a niece and six nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Florence Huilman.
