Janas was born on December 3, 1946, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Claude and Ann (Heitz) Meyer. Bill and Janas were high school sweetheart’s. They met at Wahlert high school class of 1965. Bill was drafted upon graduation. After Bill finished active duty, they were married on December 30, 1967, at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Dad always said that opposites attract, and in this case it’s true, but boy did it work! She worked for Northwestern Bell until the birth of their first son. Janas, affectionately known as Jany and GiGi, touched countless lives throughout her 40+ years as a dedicated daycare provider. It was being able to care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren that gave her the most joy. When she retired from daycare, she worked at St, Joseph the Worker daycare in the kitchen where she could still be involved with caring for children. Her heart was always open to others, especially children and the elderly, whom she cared for with boundless love and compassion. Whether it was taking someone out to eat, helping with errands, or simply offering her company, she was there for everyone. Known by many and loved by all, GiGi’s kindness and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Janas is survived by her husband Bill, sons Willie (Julie) Frye and Devin (Cathy) Frye, grandchildren Jim (Jessica) Frye, Rachel Frye, Chris Frye, Savannah (Matt) Cox, and Ava (Christian Upton)Frye, great grandchildren Rogan Cashman, Lincoln Frye, Scarlett Sickler, Devin Cox, and Raine Cox, sister Jerine (Bob) Bierie, sister-in-law Jan Meyer; siblings-in-law Sandy (Tony) Amberg, Jim Frye, Ann (Paul) Lewis, and Denny Frye, Willie’s mother-in-law Jean Gehrke, and Devin’s mother-in-law Marge Oglesby.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her parents-in-law Bill and Bea Frye, brother Jim Meyer, and great grandson Carson Sickler.
The family would like to thank Janas’s sister Jerine and niece Tami Curzon for all of their love, compassion, and support of mom. They would also like to thank the 5th floor Med/Surg nurses and staff at UnityPoint Health – Finley for their care of mom.
