Joe Heuer, 54, of Dubuque, died peacefully at home on Monday, August 31, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm Thursday, September 3, 2026 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory.

The Funeral Service for Joe will be 10:00 am Friday, September 4, 2026, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory with Bishop Lynn Spicer officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Key West.

Joe was born September 3, 1971, in Davenport, IA, the son of William and Alice Wiskerchen Heuer. On August 20, 1994, he married Tara Renae Edwards in Maquoketa.

He was a 1989 graduate of Maquoketa High School.

He worked at A.Y. McDonald Manufacturing for over 30 years.

He was a true sports enthusiast, especially enjoying Chicago Cubs baseball and the time he spent playing with his sons. He was a devoted Chicago Bears fan and looked forward to spending Sundays watching football with the boys. He also loved smoking meats, always experimenting with new recipes and flavors on his smoker, which he proudly shared at poker nights with the guys. Above all, Joe was a caring and thoughtful person who was known for his quick wit and great sense of humor. He had a special way of bringing laughter to those around him and could always find a way to make even the saddest moments a little brighter.

Survivors include his wife, Tara: two sons, Brady Heuer and Mitchell Heuer, both of Dubuque; one daughter, Emily Heuer of Dubuque; two sisters, Becky Ineichen of Blue Grass, IA and Kim (Mike) Menster of Cascade, IA; three brothers, Bill (Pam) Heuer of Blue Grass, IA, and Jim (Karie) Heuer of Maquoketa and Bob (Brenda) Heuer, of Preston, IA; in-laws, Troy Edwards, Jamie (Terry) Frost, Jolene (Jason) Tracy, and Jenny (Ryan) Tracy; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bruce Heuer; two sisters, Debra Costello and Ruth Ann Beranek; and his father- and mother-in-law, James and Darcy Edwards.

A memorial has been established.

Joe’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Dubuque, Dr. Engelman, and the nurses and staff at Mercy Cancer Center for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided to Joe and his family.
