Leon H. Batteram

Leon H. “Bud” Batteram, 88, of rural Hazel Green, WI, formerly of East Dubuque, IL, passed away suddenly at 9:31 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2018 at the Miller Funeral Home in East Dubuque, with Fr. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial in the East Dubuque Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 10:45 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Bud was born on May 5, 1929 in Dunleith Twp. of Jo Daviess County, the son of Henry and Gladys (Brauhn) Batteram. He was a 1947 graduate of East Dubuque High School where he was on the Warrior’s baskeball team that were champions two years in a row.

He was united in marriage to Lorraine Kraft on February 18, 1950 in East Dubuque. She preceded him in death on May 21, 2011.

Bud was employed by Interstate Power Company for 42 years as a lineman and supervisor, retiring in 1991. He also farmed with his two sons, Bruce and Reid, in rural Hazel Green.

He was a member of I.B.E.W. Local #263. Bud loved tinkering in his shop and gardening. He and Lorraine enjoyed camping and traveling with their fifth-wheel camper to various parts of the Midwest and Western states.

Surviving are five children, Bruce (Dianne) Batteram of Hazel Green; JaNae (Lawrence) Kreul of Cambridge, Wi; Reid (Mary Carol) Batteram of Hazel Green; Alisa (Curt) Miller of Cascade, IA; and Annette (Matt) Lewis of Dubuque, 9 grandchildren, Angie, Amy, Heather, Karmen, Christopher, Brittany, Zachary, Kelsey, and Madeline; 8 great grandchildren, Dax, Kyra, and Trygve, Barbara, Olivia, Dahlten, Hailey, and Evie; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Hughes of Dubuque, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Gladys; and his wife, Lorraine.

Memorials may be given to a charity of one’s choice.
