Martin was born on February 7, 1953, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Eldon M. and Inez L. (Vaske) Schultz. He attended the Vinton School for the Blind, and later received his GED from NICC. Martin worked at Goodwill Industries, first in Waterloo and then in Des Moines. He later worked at Vocational Services Center in Dubuque. Martin was a lifelong member of the Dubuque Chapter of the Iowa Council of the Blind.
Martin was a big Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed listening to 60’s music and Johnny Cash. He knew his 70’s cars-make and model-from just the feel of the tail light, and he loved going to car rallies with his cousin, Jim. He also enjoyed going to prom at Sunnycrest, along with the other events they put on like bingo and the annual hayride.
Martin is survived by his sister, Anna (Loras) Decker of Dubuque, Iowa; sister-in-law, Sally Schultz of West Des Moines, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon and Inez; brother, Stephen Schultz; and sisters, Catherine and Carol.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Martin’s name to Sunnycrest Manor Auxiliary.
Martin’s family would like to thank the staff in EVERY department at Sunnycrest, as well as all the residents who made Sunnycrest his home. Thank you for taking care of him and for giving him so much care and comfort.
