Mary C. Smith
Mary C. Smith, 86, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on July 8, 2026, at Hawkeye Care Center surrounded by the love of her family.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 11th, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, New Melleray.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Fr. Martin Obeng officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, Dubuque, Iowa, is assisting the family.
Mary was born on February 1, 1940, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Tony and Clara (Anstoetter) Jasper. She was united in marriage to Orlin Smith on September 5th, 1959, in Farley, IA. She attended beauty school, and worked as a beautician, a homemaker, and also at The Metrix Company. Mary was a talented crocheter, quilter, and sewer. She loved being with her family, especially weekend sleepovers with her grandchildren, and hosting family Christmas gatherings. Mary was known for her meatballs and twinkie cake! She also enjoyed puzzles, flowers, her pet cat, and cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Hawkeyes basketball.
Mary is survived by her children, John Smith, Jim (Susie) Smith, Cathy Bormann, Paul (Susie) Smith, and Sally (Danny) Weber; grandchildren, Ryan Smith, Jenny (Tom) Rogers, Michael Smith, Matt Smith, Heidi Bormann, Emily (Eric) Stephens, Kristy (Mitchell) De Los Santos, Tony (Josh) Peter Smith, Jake (Bailey Fleming) Smith, Molly (Bart) Frederick, Jordan (Carly) Weber, Kim (Steve) Hames, and Justin (Katie) Weber; 14 great grandchildren and one on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orlin; daughter-in-law Betsy Smith; son-in-law Darrell Bormann; granddaughter Sheila Smith; parents Tony and Clara Jasper; siblings Roy (Betty) Jasper, Sr. Phillip PBVM, Jim (Toots) Jasper, Rita (Gerry) Schwendinger; Lois (Joe) Hoeger, and Sr. Karen PBVM.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque, and the wonderful care at Hawkeye Care Center.
