Robert C. (Toad) Schwartz, 77, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away on July 7, 2026, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, IA.

A visitation to honor his life will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026, at the Miller Funeral Home in East Dubuque, IL.

Bob was born in Dubuque, Iowa on April 11, 1949, the son of Robert and Kathleen (Spangler) Schwartz. He married Mary Hoppmann on November 12, 1972. He spent 40 plus years at John Deere Dubuque Works working in various departments and was a proud leader on the committee to bring Skid Steer production to Dubuque. Bob was a proud member of UAW Local # 94.

His casual time was spent with family and friends. Over the years he enjoyed setting up and organizing volleyball and golf tournaments to bring friends together.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; and two sons, Paul (Sakina) Schwartz of Euless, TX and Matthew (Marisa) Schwartz of East Dubuque, IL; grandchildren, Lincoln and Lawson Schwartz; sisters, Laura (John) Hemann of Cedar Rapids, IA, Jane (Gary) Zeck of Dubuque, IA, Mary (Tom Roush) Schwartz of Dubuque, IA; brother-in-law, Terry (Linda) Kelley; and many nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Linda Kelley and brother-in-law, Tom Rousch, father and mother-in-law, Donald F. and Virginia M. Hoppmann, brothers-in-law, Robert and Donald Hoppmann, Jr. and sister-in-law Carrol Hoppman.

Mary and the family would like to express our appreciation for the love and support we have received from all who knew Bob.
