Mary L. Kueter
Mary Lois (Kilburg) Kueter, 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Stonehill Communities in Dubuque, Iowa. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellevue, Iowa. Family will greet friends from 9:00 am – 10:30 am, prior to Mass at Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Bellevue, Iowa.
Mary Lois was born on October 23, 1935, in rural Springbrook to Walter and Eleanor (Rubel) Kilburg. Mary Lois spent her early years on the farm near Springbrook. Upon entering high school, the family moved to Bellevue. Mary Lois graduated from St. Joseph High School. She was married to Thomas Kueter on July 31, 1954.
Mary Lois loved to work and did so diligently day and night at her many pursuits. She was a devoted mother and took great pride in caring for her family and found time to teach Religious Education class for church. Mary Lois was known for preparing delicious Sunday barbecue chicken dinners and hearty meals. She was also known for her mouthwatering, picturesque sticky buns and pies and perfectly landscaped and manicured yard. Mary Lois also held the role of office manager for the family construction business. Mary Lois cared deeply about her parents, caring for them until they passed.
In Mary’s free time, she enjoyed snow skiing, playing bridge and euchre with family and friends and watching her grandchildren’s activities. In addition, she enjoyed wintering in Florida with Tom. While there, they enjoyed spending time with their family and friends.
Mary Lois is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Tom, and their six children Mike (Lori) Kueter, Kevin (Melia) Kueter, Denise (Marty) Johnson, Christopher (Gretchen) Kueter, Jean (John) Burson, and Patrick (Deanna) Kueter. Mary was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Mary Lois is also survived by her siblings, Darwin Kilburg and Arla (Terry) Hodgkinson; sisters in-law and brothers in-law, Phyllis Schwager, Gloria Medinger, Joseph (Nancy) Kueter, Martha Rheingans, Dennis (Vicki) Kueter, and Sue (Bill) Griebel.
Mary Lois was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Eleanor Kilburg and a sister Doris Medinger and brother in-law Don Medinger; sisters in-law and brothers in-law, Judy Kilburg, Wilfred Schwager, Richard Medinger, Wayne Rheingans, Mary (Allen ) Kilburg, and Darla (Stanley) Sturm.
The family would like to thank the staff at Stonehill Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque for the loving care and support to Mary Lois and her family.
A memorial fund has been established in Mary Lois’s memory.
