Mary Virginia “Jeanne” Gross, age 86, of Dubuque, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Ennoble Manor.  In keeping with Jeanne’s wishes private family services were held.  Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.  Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street is assisting Jeanne’s family.

Jeanne was born on December 24, 1939, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Edmund Fred and Marion Lucille (O’Hern) Gross.

Jeanne attended St. Joseph Academy, earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Dubuque, and graduated from the Mercy School of Nursing and Clarke University.  She was employed as a nurse with Mercy Hospital, Xavier Hospital and the University of Iowa.  She also worked in the finance department.  Jeanne ended her career at age 65 after devoting 35 years to her profession.  She was very active in her community.  She was a member of the Nurses Association, the University Alumni Association, the Red Cross and March of Dimes and St. Patrick’s Church where she served on the parish council and sang in the choir for 12 years.  Jeanne loved to sing, quilt, do embroidery work and was an avid reader.  She got very involved in genealogy and completed her complete family history.  Jeanne also liked the simple things in life like spending time with her family and an ice cold Coca Cola.  She was a kind woman and will be greatly missed.

Riley Katherine and Sophia Abigail Smith.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents.

Jeanne’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Ennoble Manor for their kind and compassionate care.  Also a special thanks to Care Initiatives Hospice, especially Angie, for the care they provided for Jeanne.
