Michael W. Wand, 62, of Dubuque IA passed away on September 16th, 2026 after a battle with cancer.  He will be deeply missed by his family, children, and friends.

Family and friends may visit from 1:00-4:00p.m., Saturday, September 19, 2026 at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Road, Dubuque. A short service will follow at 4:00p.m.

Michael (Mike) was born in Dubuque to Donald and Judy Wand in 1964; the eldest of 4 children. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1982.  Mike loved riding his bicycle, exploring town with his friends and cousins, listening to rock & roll on his records, and being a goofy rascal.  He had been a bike mechanic for the Bike Shack since before his children Courtney and April were born to him and Mary Wand.  The family would often ride on the Heritage Trail together, explore Swiss Valley Park, play Frisbee, go sledding, and generally enjoy the outdoors with their pet dogs Vixie and then Trixie.

When Mike came into possession of his childhood home, he took great pride in taking care of the lawn, his mother’s roses, and the local birds at his bird feeder.  He also enjoyed visiting Florida, the local casinos, supper clubs, and tagging along with his friends while they restored a 1970’s Chevelle (the exact car he had owned in his youth).  His latest pet dog was Wesley, a rescued stray.  Mike would often take Wesley to parks and on car rides. This included driving to the local coffee shop once his daughter introduced him to the world of fancy espresso drinks.  While he was receiving treatment, his nurses would often see him arriving with a mocha frappe in hand.  Even throughout his treatments, Mike was always thinking of others and trying to make them laugh.

Mike is survived by his siblings Steven Wand, Christopher Wand (Will Hatchel), and Lisa Gatena (David), his two children Courtney Wand (Mathew Cooley) and April Wand, his friend and ex-wife Mary Wand, friend and former sister-in-law Marlene Wand, nieces Alexis Wand and Olivia Wand, nephew Max Gatena, step-nephews, and cousins including from the Kies and Olson families.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents Robert and Virginia Kies and William and Lillian Wand, and by his parents Donald in 2008 and Judy in 2018.

Mike’s family wishes to extend special gratitude to all of the medical staff, neighbors, family, friends, and the Avery foundation who offered their support during his journey.  He was blessed by your love and compassion.
