Nancy E. Kelly, 79, of Galena, IL, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Midwest Senior Care Center in Galena.

Nancy was born on January 21, 1947, in the Brighton Park neighborhood of Chicago. She was the youngest of seven children born to Martin and Frances (Baatz) Rovak. She was united in marriage to Robert Kelly on April 20, 1964. Robert preceded her in death on March 21, 2006. Nancy will be remembered most for her deep love of family and the many simple joys she shared with those closest to her.

Her family was always at the center of her life, and she treasured the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. Each of her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and the memories they created together will be cherished for years to come. Nancy had a personality all her own. In her younger years, she was affectionately known by her family and friends as “Mrs. Clean,” taking great pride in keeping everything neat and tidy. She enjoyed watching game shows, especially The Price Is Right, and she loved gathering around the table to play cards. Some of her favorite times were spent playing poker with her siblings, nieces, and nephews. She also enjoyed camping with her family, including trips to Crivitz, Wisconsin. These adventures, along with family gatherings and countless everyday moments, brought Nancy great happiness. Nancy’s greatest joy was her family. She loved them deeply and took great pleasure in watching her children and grandchildren grow. Her warmth, humor, caring nature, and the special memories she created will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Nancy is survived by her son, Michael Kelly; her daughter, Lisa (Kyle) Buros; four grandchildren, Michelle, Christopher, Natalie, and Gabrielle Kelly; her sister, Barb; and her brother, Jim; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Martin and Tom; two sisters, Katie and Carol; three nephews, Billy, Kevin, and Tim; and a niece, Debbie.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Midwest Nursing Home, Midwest Medical Center and its emergency room staff, Dr. Beth Gullone, and Hospice of Dubuque for the care, compassion, and support they provided to Nancy and her family. Their kindness helped to make this difficult chapter a little easier and provided comfort and support to Nancy and those who loved her.

In keeping with Nancy’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. The Furlong Funeral Chapel in Galena is assisting the family.
