Nathalie “Nat” Ewers, 87, of Galena, IL, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, at her home.  A funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, August 10, 2026, at Furlong Funeral Chapel in Galena. Friends may call from 1 to 3 PM on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Galena.

She was born on March 2, 1939 in Clinton, IA the daughter of Clifton and Buelah (Miller) Drury. She was united in marriage to John Ewers, on May 2, 1964, and he preceded her in death on October 3, 1994.

Nat will be remembered for her generous heart, adventurous spirit, and the warmth she shared with everyone who knew her. Her home was truly the center of her life, a place where friends, family, and neighbors were always welcome. Whether gathering for a Friday evening drink, sharing stories and laughter, or simply stopping by for a visit, everyone knew they would be greeted with a big smile and an open door. A passionate gardener, Nat took great pride in her home and the beautiful garden she lovingly cultivated. One of her greatest joys was her Garden Club, where she shared her love of gardening with countless kids inspiring an appreciation for nature that will live on for generations. Nat never passed up an opportunity for an adventure and embraced life with enthusiasm. She was an adventurous grandmother whose love and playful spirit created treasured memories for her three grandchildren. She also became an honorary grandmother to many neighborhood children and family friends, making everyone who crossed her path feel like family. Throughout the Galena community, Nat was known for the house with the big elephant in the backyard, the highlight of countless school field trips to her garden. She touched so many lives through her friendship and generosity, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to bloom for years to come.

Nat is survived by her daughter, Michelle (Dennis) Cormier, her three grandchildren, Zachary Cormier and his fiancée, Lex Candido, Matthew Cormier, and Owen Cormier; along with many dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, and her son, John C. Ewers.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Karen White, Joyce and John Wills, Marybeth Hyde, and Karsyn DuPlessis for their unwavering friendship, compassion, and companionship. Their love and support throughout Nat’s life brought great comfort to both Nat and her family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dubuque, in Nat’s memory.

Her kindness, laughter, adventurous spirit, and unwavering love for her friends, family and community will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
