Pete Ludwig, 60, of Dubuque passed away on July 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 10th, 2025, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road with a prayer service with sharing time to begin at 6:00 p.m. A continued celebration of Pete’s life will follow the service at the Dubuque Marina and Yardarm. Private entombment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Pete was born on November 14, 1964, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Richard and Barbara (Hayford) Ludwig. He attended St. Anthony’s Elementary School and graduated from Wahlert High School.

Pete began his professional journey at his family’s company, Aladdin Uniform Rental, and throughout his career, he held ownership and partnership roles at several area businesses, including the Dubuque Marina and Yardarm, Offshore Resort, Aladdin, Coconut Cove Resort, Whitetail Bluff Campground, as well as other businesses.

For years, Pete was an avid hunter; he enjoyed owning and hunting recreational farms.  Pete had numerous partners in his businesses and farms; these partners were drawn to Pete’s adventurous spirit and ever-optimistic attitude.  He was the type of boss everyone wanted to work for; he had an uplifting personality and a smile for everyone.  A loyal friend to so many, who stayed close to many of those that he met in kindergarten and early grade school years.  He maintained friendships from every stage of his life and actively expanded that circle of friends throughout his life.

Pete is survived by his mother, Barbara Ludwig; his significant other, Michelle “Shelly” Herrig; his two children Sara (Tyler) Eckstein and Thomas Ludwig; brothers Michael (Lois) Ludwig, and Mark (Kimmie Sauegling) Ludwig; sisters Ann (Tom) Jenkins, Cathy Ludwig and Jennifer Ludwig, along with many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Pete was preceded in death by his father, Richard Ludwig and his niece, Christine Ludwig.

In lieu of flowers a Pete Ludwig memorial fund will be established.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to the Sherrill Fire Department, MercyOne Emergency Room, AirCare Emergency Transport, and the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics for the dedicated care and compassion provided. They also offer special thank you to all family members and friends for their unwavering support, comfort, and kindness during this difficult time.
