Raymond was born on April 21, 1926, in Petersburg, Iowa, the son of Anton and Pauline (Lueck) Schmuecker. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. On November 30, 1957, he married Virgene Lammers. Together, they were blessed with three children. Virgene passed away in 1974.
Raymond was an honest, hardworking man whose life was built on integrity, dedication, and strong values. He established Schmuecker Truck Line in 1955. In addition, he worked as a hog buyer for the Dubuque Packing Company for more than 35 years. He developed a reputation for his strong work ethic and dependability.
A talented and resourceful mechanic, Raymond took great pride in maintaining and working on his own trucks. He was a man who knew how to work with his hands and was never afraid to tackle a job himself.
Above all, Raymond cherished his family. He took great pride in his children and shared with them the many values that guided his own life—honesty, hard work, faith, and responsibility. His faith was at the foundation of his life, and he held a deep love for Petersburg and the community he called home. He valued the people around him and was grateful for the many relationships and memories made throughout his life.
He is survived by his children: Tammy Thatcher of Marion, Tom (Teri) Schmuecker of Manchester, Ann (Jon) Cabana of Petersburg; grandchildren: Elizabeth Thatcher, Summer (Tyler Townsend) Schmuecker, Dylan Schmuecker, Taylor Schmuecker; and bonus family of Anna Jean Drees.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Virgene; his long-time partner, Anna Jean Drees; son-in-law, Gary Thatcher; and a brother, Art (Mary Lou) Schmuecker;
The family would like to thank staff on the MedSurg Floor at Regional Medical Center in Manchester and Care Initiatives Hospice.
