Richard was born on November 12, 1941, Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Donald P and Elizabeth “Bette” (McAndrew) Noonan. Rich was a lifelong member of the Church of the Nativity, beginning with grade school in 1953. He then went to the Loras Academy and then graduated from Wahlert Catholic High School in 1961. He was united in marriage to Kathryn Conzett on July 24, 1965, at the Church of the Nativity. He and Kathy continued as active parishioners with Rich serving as a lead usher for many years and serving on the parish council. He worked for the Dubuque Community School District in the Building and Grounds Department for over 30 years. He happily retired in 2003 and provided “shuttle service” on a regular basis for the grandchildren. He loved his grandchildren deeply and enjoyed their various activities.

Rich was proud of his 100% Irish heritage, which was evident in his quick wit and great sense of humor. He was often labeled “the life of the party” by family and friends. Rich was always a sports enthusiast. He shared a love of baseball with his grandpa Joe Noonan, and they would often share a catch at the homestead in Garryowen. Rich continued the love of sports, and was an active participant in the fast pitch softball leagues in Dubuque in the 1960’s and 1970’s.

Richard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Kathryn Noonan of Dubuque; son, Brian (Sarah) Noonan of Lenoir, NC; son, Brett (Susie) Noonan of Dubuque; daughter, Kelly ( Randy) Lengeling of Dubuque; grandchildren, McAndrew Noonan, Brinn ( Damon) Noonan Burnette, Johnny Noonan, William (Linda) Ungs, Louis Ungs, Isabel Ungs, Amelia Noonan, Audrey Noonan, Caroline Noonan, and Clara Noonan; great grandsons, Bentlee Patrick and Remington Burnette; sister, Jane (Frank) Lange; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Roger) Beau, Mary Ann Conzett, and Sandra Link; and brother-in-law, David (Jane) Conzett).

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Richard “Dick” and T. Isabel Conzett; brother, Steve Noonan; brothers-in-law Nick Conzett and Ken Link; and nephew, Brandon Mueller.

In lieu of flowers, a Richard J. Noonan memorial fund has been established.
