Richard J. Sullivan

Richard “Dick” J. Sullivan, 83 of Galena, IL, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026, at Midwest Senior Care Center, Galena. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. A private family burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Galena. Cremation rites have been accorded. The Furlong Funeral Chapel in Galena is assisting the family.
He was born April 24, 1943, in Galena, the son of William and Emma (Timmerman) Sullivan. Dick married his one true love, Janet Haase, on April 25, 1964, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Galena, and she died before him on November 10, 2022. He enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, reading history books, watching Western movies and crime shows, going on rides in the country, playing Euchre, and had a passion for finding and refurbishing antiques.  Dick worked locally for New Jersey Zinc and Trus Joist, then for HMT and Matrix Service in California. He retired in 1997 and moved back to Galena in 1999, where he loved owning and managing apartments.
Dick is survived by his son, Tim (Shauna) Sullivan, of Galena, a daughter-in-law, Karen Sullivan of Anaheim, CA, five grandchildren, Nicole (Kyle) Craig, Hannah (Nolan) Atkins, Abigail, Ty, and Drew Sullivan, two great-grandchildren, Emma and Sawyer Craig, and a baby boy, Atkins, on the way, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a son, William “Bill”; his in-laws, William (Florence) Haase; two siblings, Rita Glasgow and Merlyn Sullivan; two brothers-in-law, Jim Glasgow and Ronnie Haase; and two sisters-in-law, Marguerita Sullivan and Beverly Haase.
