Richard L. “Dick” Sullivan, 85, of Cascade, Iowa passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 17, 2018 in Cascade, Iowa.

Friends and relatives of Dick called from 2 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa where a wake service was held at 2:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian burial for Dick was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa with Rev. Douglas Loecke Presiding. Mass servers were Brianna Koppes and Carter Green. Lectors were Cathy Knuth and Claire Brown. Eucharistic Ministers were Kathy Beck and CeAnn Brickley. Placing of the pall was done by Shawn Curoe, Tara Noonan, Lisa Roth, Bridget Rea and Ryan Sullivan. Giftbearers were Cameron Curoe, Brynn Kolpin, Nicole Roth, Calvin Rea and Ethan Sullivan. Burial was held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade, Iowa with full military honors afforded by the Cascade American Legion Post #528.
Casketbearers were Mike “Curly” Takes, Ed “Weaver” Manternach, Tim Gehl, Mark Knuth, Kelly Sullivan and Ted Green.
He was born October 27, 1932 in Monticello, Iowa, son of Leo and Virginia (Smith) Sullivan. He received his education from St. Mary’s High School in Cascade, Iowa. On October 22, 1955 he was united in marriage to Nancy C. Kauder at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa. Dick served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Dick’s family owned and operated the Cascade Pioneer for many years.

He is a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade, Iowa. He is also a member of the Cascade American Legion Post #528 and a former member of the Cascade Jaycees where he served as past president.

He is survived by his wife Nancy Sullivan of Cascade, IA; five children, Shawn (Mark) Curoe of Aurora, IL, Tara (Jim “Jake”) Noonan of Cascade, IA, Lisa (Tom) Roth of Bellvue, IA, Bridget (Mike) Rea of Cascade, IA, Ryan Sullivan of Cedar Rapids, IA; 15 grandchildren, Cameron and Cale, Brynn, Blaine and Kaleb, Nicole, Megan and Rachel, Calvin, Colin, Claire, Chloe and Corinne, Ethan and Rylan; 13 great grandchildren with two more on the way; one brother, John (Lois) Sullivan of Cascade, IA; three sisters-in-law, Rita Kauder and Joan Kauder both of Cascade, IA and Diana Kauder of Dubuque, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister Norma (Robert) Kurt; two sisters-in-law, Jacquie (Lavern) Lambert and Phyllis (John “Skip”) Dolphin; three brothers-in-law, Fred, Kenneth “P.J.” and William “W.J.” Kauder.

In Lieu of flowers a Richard Sullivan memorial fund has been established.
