Sally M. Stackis
Sally M. Stackis, 90, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 1, 2026.A private family burial will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery at a later date. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is assisting the family.
Born in Dubuque Iowa on December 19, 1935, to Eldon M. Rowe and Eldoris Hanson Rowe, Sally married George N. Stackis in April of 1955, and together they raised six children.
Sally worked at the Chateau Supper Club from the early 1960s until its closing in 1992. She later joined the Diamond Jo Casino, where she worked until her retirement in 1997.
Sally loved the simple joys of life, time spent with family, laughter shared with friends, and a good card game. If you sat down to play Euchre with her, you knew the stakes were a dollar a game, and if you forgot your money, she’d happily spot you a dollar or two. She loved a good laugh and had a fun sense of humor. Sally was an avid bowler and achieved many 200 pins during her bowling years. She also enjoyed bingo and working on puzzles, both of which brought her many relaxing and happy hours.
Sally is survived by her children: Dan (Karla) Stackis, Chris (Dan) Heins, Georgia (Peter) Slade, Patty Dalton, David Stackis, and Julie Stackis; eleven grandchildren: Brittani Parks, Cody (Cassie) Stackis, Ryan (Shannon) Slade, Aubree (Greg) Rehmke, Danielle (Jeremy) Daughetee, Nolan Heins, Brandon Lawhorne, Alex Lawhorne, Madison Dalton, Jason Guler, and Emily (Nash) Fuller; twelve great‑grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her sister‑in‑law, Donna Rowe.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Col. Alvin Rowe.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the Stonehill Health Center team for their loving care. Sally enjoyed her time at Stonehill and, true to form, quickly made friends with those around her. The family also wishes to thank Hospice of Dubuque for their compassionate care of our mom in her final days.
