Sandra L. Rolwes

Sandra “Sandy” Lee Rolwes, 86, of Asbury, formerly of Balltown, died Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Hawkeye Care Center in Asbury.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Sandy will be at 10:30 am Thursday, July 2, 2026, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Tyler Raymond as the Celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Sandra was born January 17, 1940, in Dubuque, the daughter of Reynold and Stella (Miller) Schmitt. On May 18, 1957, she married Richard Sr. “Dick” Rolwes in Balltown. He preceded her in death on February 16, 2020.

Sandy was Dick’s right hand on the farm, always willing to lend a hand wherever she was needed. She enjoyed mowing the lawn, tending her garden, and canning the fruits of her labor. In her free time, she loved sewing, watching westerns, soap operas, and especially quilting. She rarely missed a Tuesday quilting with her friends in Buenie, a tradition she greatly cherished. Sandy was also an excellent cook, and anyone who came to help on the farm could count on sharing a home-cooked meal with the family before leaving.

Survivors include three children, Cindy (Steve) Kutsch of Balltown, Richard Jr. “Pat” (Tammy) Rolwes of Dubuque, and Laurie (Jeff Herburger) Rolwes of New Glarus, WI, nine grandchildren, Andrew (Emily) Kutsch, Matthew (Stephanie) Kutsch, Stephanie (Brian “Ponch”) Wulfekuhle, Brian (Abby) Kutsch, Justin (Karla) Rolwes, Kyla Rolwes, Derrick (Lauren) Rolwes, Dallas (Ashley) Rolwes, and Blake Herburger; 18 great-grandchildren; and one step-sister, Madonna Gudenkauf of Dubuque.

Besides her parents and husband, Sandy was preceded in death by her son, Gregory; and three step-siblings, Helen Leibfried, Vivian Ruden, and Elmer “Bud” Jaeger.

Memorials may be given in Sandy’s name to Hospice of Dubuque.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Hospice of Dubuque, granddaughter, Stephanie Wulfekuhle, for stepping in to help take care of Grandma, and Hawkeye Care Center for all of their care.
