Carl C. Ruff, 92, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Maquoketa Care Center in Maquoketa, Iowa.

Carl C. Ruff was born on April 12, 1934, in Jackson County, Iowa, to Frederick Charles and Margaret Louise (Taylor) Ruff.  He married Berneta Marie Hettrick on November 21, 1953 in Iowa.  Three children were born to this union, Mike, Terry, and Carla.

Carl kept busy and did many jobs throughout his life.  He first did carpentry work, then worked as a mechanic for the City of Iowa City before becoming a shop foreman for the City of Iowa City.  He then returned home to Jackson County to farm near Canton and worked at the United Livestock Sale Barn.  He also ran a bulldozer for Lane Sagers, worked for Ruff’s Autobody Shop, and in later years worked for Campbell Cleanup and Ruff’N’Ready Disposal.

Carl enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.

Those left to honor his memory include children, Mike (Lenna) Ruff of El Paso, TX, Terry (Lola) Ruff of Iowa City, IA, and Carla (George Turpin) Huebbe of Maquoketa, IA; brother, Chuck (Liz) Ruff of Chicago, IL; 5 grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Berneta on September 22, 2024, brothers Floyd, Clarence, and Jack, and sisters Betty, Irma, and Frances.

A private family burial will be held at a later date at the Hickory Grove Cemetery, rural Monmouth.  At Peace Cremation Services have been provided by Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  No public visitation or services are planned at this time.
