Cindy was born on February 18, 1956, in Dubuque, IA, a daughter to Albert E. and Adele C. (Maas) Davis.  She eventually met the love of her life, Paul Lester, and the couple was united in marriage and enjoyed many wonderful years together before he was sadly called home ahead of her in 2015.  Cindy spent most of her working career in apartment management working primarily with Key Apartments in Dubuque, but also invested a few years in the Iowa City area.

Cindy definitely treasured her free-time and was always content when she could put some of her creative talents to use.  She had a natural talent when it came to ceramics and proudly owned her own personal kiln which helped to bring her creations to life on her own schedule.  She also enjoyed sewing, jewelry making, and crafts of all sorts and leaves behind countless memorabilia  today for those who knew and loved her to treasure. Cindy was quite capable in the kitchen as well and thoroughly enjoyed baking delicious treats whenever possible. We are going to miss our dear Cindy, her relentless strong will, and her take it or leave it attitude moving forward.  It’s difficult to imagine a world without her physical presence mingled within it, but we trust that the Lord has her home safely now, reunited with all of her loved ones who’ve gone ahead, and surely free from her earthly health battles.   Thank you, Cindy, for leaving behind an abundance of memories for us to lean on through the more difficult days ahead as we seek peace and healing while waiting to see you again.

Shaun M. Timmerman, 25, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on October 24th, 2023.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7th, 2023 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home with Deacon David Roth officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Shaun Michael Timmerman was born on July 13th, 1998, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of John and Carolyn (Hanten) Timmerman. Shaun graduated from Stephen Hempstead High School with the class of 2017 and found work in Dubuque as a CNC Machinist at TDM Machining.

Shaun liked to lay low, and always kept his nose to the grindstone, working hard to save enough to buy a house one day. He made it a point to live life with few possessions, and the only décor in his home was either left behind from a previous owner, or gifted by his sister Danielle.

Shaun enjoyed iRacing, a sprint car racing simulator on his gaming computer, for which he had an impressive setup. He made a name for himself in the community as an extremely skilled racer and made many great friends during his time in the sport.

Offline, he loved attending dirt track races, and he would travel across the country to attend them, making friends along the way. He also enjoyed (not) betting on horse racing, but would brag to us about how much money he would have made, if he had. Shaun could also be found riding his motorcycle around town or with his brother.

Shaun is survived by his parents John and Carolyn (Hanten) Timmerman, sister Danielle, brother Shane, aunts and uncles Lori (Thad) Everson of De Forest, WI, Lisa (Larry) Hoch of Eau Claire, WI, Denise (Daryl) Sauerbrei of Urbandale, IA, Debbie (Phil) Meyer, Janet (Dan) Krewson, Allan (Kim) Hanten, all of Dubuque, Iowa, cousins Jakob Eigenberger, Samantha Sauerbrei, Alec (Sammy) Sauerbrei, Trevor (Camila) Meyer, Morgan (Jake) Doty, Marissa (Brody) Hulme, Lauren Winter, Cole Winter, Alyssa (Alex) Reiter, and Kayla (fiancé Brian Gilles) Hanten. We are going to dearly miss his infectious laugh and witty comebacks.

He was preceded in death by his sister Emily Timmerman, and grandparents Burnell & Janet (Pitzen) Timmerman, and Daniel & Barbara (Hoffmann) Hanten.

“And between now and then, ‘til I see you again, I’ll be loving you. Love, me.”

Thank you to all the family and friends along with the iRacing Family for their love and support. #SlideJobsDaily.

Alice K. Laaker

Alice Kay Laaker, age 84, of Dubuque, IA, completed her earthly journey on October 31, 2023, at home while surrounded by her loving family.  To honor Alice’s life, her Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Dockside Bar and Grille, 22500 Golf Lake Road in Mud Lake.  Alice’s family requests that family and friends wear their pink attire proudly in honor of Alice.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Alice’s family.

Alice was born on February 21, 1939, in Holy Cross, IA, a daughter to Clarence and Edwina (Hefel) Schmitt.  She grew up with a strong work ethic which she carried proudly throughout her entire life.  Alice invested over 40 years of her time and talents at Georgia Pacific until her eventual retirement in 2009 and was literally heartbroken when she discovered that she would not be returning for another honest day’s work moving forward.  Alice was more than just a faithful and loyal employee though, her devotion to her family and friends was always a top priority in her life.  Spending time with “her grandkids” was what drove Alice most days, but she always enjoyed a little time working in the yard, or walking her dog as time allowed.  She also treasured any opportunity to grab her fishing pole and spend some time in the warm afternoon sun, or gathering around the card table for a friendly game of Euchre.  Watching General Hospital was also a subtle vice which she secretly submitted to, but all of these pastimes were only made perfect when she had a cold Pepsi in her hands as well.  Alice lived a full and abundant life and thankfully leaves behind many beautiful memories for those who knew and loved her to carry on in their hearts and minds.  Her legacy will be clearly evident in the generations to follow and we are grateful for every moment the Lord kept Alice here among us to spread her love and light and continually remind us that “God is good, all the time”.  Thank you, Alice, for teaching us that the challenges in life are primarily opportunities for us to grow and become stronger and only through the difficult days can we truly learn to appreciate the good ones also.  May peace be yours now as you leave your earthly battles behind and may the Lord keep and hold you as we seek peace and comfort in your absence.  We will surely try our best to remember your no tears motto also as we attempt to navigate the difficult days ahead without you by our side.  We will love and miss you dearly until we meet again!

Those left behind to cherish the memory of Alice include,

Val was born on March 5, 1948, in Guttenberg, IA, a daughter to Clarence “C.J.” and Cathy (Fisne) Adams.  She was a woman who thoroughly enjoyed the simple things in life.  Val’s skills in the kitchen were legendary and her cakes not only brought her joy, but also those around her.  She also enjoyed listening to Elvis and Anne Murray in the background whenever she was creating wonderful embroidery projects, or getting her nails done.  Watching a classic western on the tv, and a little bird watching was always considered the perfect way to pass some time as well.  But, truth be told, spending time with her grandchildren was where Val’s greatest joy was to be found.  Her love for the little one’s in her family was unwavering and unending and continually on display.  We will miss Val more than she could ever know, but trust that she is now free from her earthly battles and now resided in eternal perfection.  Thank you, Val, for reminding us that life only has to be as complicated as we choose to make it and sometimes the best moments in life are nothing more than the simple moments we have our loved one’s by our side.

Keith was a devoted member of the Union Presbyterian Church in Lost Nation, where he had formerly served as a trustee. He was also a member of the Menzo Widle American Legion Post #381 of Lost Nation as well as a former member of the Delmar Lions Club. Keith’s interests were as varied as they were passionate.
