Jude C. Milbert
Jude C. Milbert, 66, of Dyersville passed away Thursday, April 6, 2023, at home surrounded by his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 4 – 7 pm Monday, April 10, 2023, at 7-Hills Brewery, 703 13th Ave SE in Dyersville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Douglas Loecke will officiate.
Born on February 9, 1957, to Adrian “Butch” & Theresa (Rauen) Milbert. Named after St. Jude, he maintained a strong faith as an active member of the St. Francis Xavier Basilica his entire life. A star athlete in high school, Jude attended Coe College where he played both baseball & football all 4 years & where he is a member of Coe College Hall of Fame.
On July 19th, 1980, he wed his high school sweetheart, Lisa Jenk. Together they raised their two daughters, Miki & Cassie in Dyersville where he ran a successful tax & financial firm until he retired in 2022. He had a vision to rebuild the farmhouse he grew up in & he and Lisa did just that in 2017. He spent countless hours perfecting the yard, planting their trees & making their dreams a reality. He enjoyed sitting under their “shady rest” where he and Lisa would reminisce & plan their future adventures.
An avid Hawkeye, St. Louis Cardinals & Indianapolis Colts fan – Jude loved attending sporting events and cheering on his teams. One of his greatest memories was being a part of the Field of Dreams movie & traveling the world as a member of the Ghost Players.
His greatest love & passion was for his family. He loved watching his 7 grandchildren grow up. Whether attending all of their sporting events, playing catch with them or taking them on gator rides around the farm. The admiration was shared, as their “Grampie” was truly their hero. He leaves behind his wife Lisa, daughters, Michelle “Miki” (Derrick) Parsons of Dyersville and Cassandra “Cassie” (Jesse) Costigan of Solon; 7 grandchildren; Jaxson, Adrianne & Bo Parsons, Isaiah, Mila, Calvin & Mack Costigan; a sister Mary Jo Frericks & -in-laws, Al Link, Mary Todd Milbert, Pam Jenk and David Jenk.
He was welcomed in heaven by both his parents, his brother Roger Milbert, sister Carol Link, a brother-in-law, Melvin Frericks, parents-in-law, Tom Sr. & Beverly Jenk, and brother-in-law, Tom Jenk, Jr.

Deborah M. Burnett
Deborah M. “Deb” Burnett, 71, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at home surrounded by her family.
Deborah Mae Rorah was born on July 24, 1951 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Wayne and Donna Mae (Flagel) Rorah. She was a 1969 graduate of Delwood High School and then received her Dental Hygienist certificate. She married Ronald J. “Ron” Burnett on May 4, 1991 in Lost Nation, Iowa.
Deb had worked as a dental hygienist at Lechtenberg Dental Clinic in Maquoketa for over 20 years. She then owned and operated Maquoketa Travel for 21 years until retirement.
Deb was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic in Maquoketa where she had previously served on the Parish Council. She had also been a very active member of the Maquoketa Chamber of Commerce and had co-chaired the annual golf tournament for over ten years. She enjoyed golfing and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Ron Burnett of Maquoketa, IA; children, Jason (Traci) Lehman of Coon Rapids, MN, and Lesley (Chris) Ortner of Gilbertville, IA; 4 grandchildren, Avery Lehman, Alec Lehman, Mack Ortner and Mya Ortner; brothers, Dennis (Connie) Rorah of Delmar, IA, and Greg (Mary Lou) Rorah of Bellevue, IA; sister, Glendy (Matt) Renwick of Kannapolis, NC; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A funeral mass celebrating her life will be held at 12 P.M., Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held prior to the mass from 9:30 A.M. to 11:45 A.M. at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded and burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lost Nation, Iowa.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Jackson County http://www.jchospice.org/.

Barbara Johnson
Barbara “Lani” Johnson, of Galena, IL passed away peacefully at The Views of Marion on Friday, March 31, 2023. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM, Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena where friends may call after 10 AM until the time of service. The cremated remains will be buried in St. Michaels Catholic Cemetery, Galena.
Barb was born in 1938 to George and Vera (Lanigan) Fisher in Chicago, IL. She attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA, where she received a bachelor’s in elementary education and was a member of the Tri Delta sorority and alumni group. She would go on to earn her master’s in special education from Clarke College in Dubuque, IA. She married Robert W. Matias in 1960 in Chicago and they lived together in Cedar Rapids for 23 years. Barb taught elementary school in Marion and substitute taught in Cedar Rapids. She later taught special education in Center Point. Barb would go on to marry Robert J. Johnson in 1990 in Las Vegas, NV and he preceded her in death on July 18, 2022. They retired to Galena where they lived together for 34 years.
While in Cedar Rapids, she was active in the Children’s Theater Play-Time Poppy, Junior League of Cedar Rapids, and the Cedar Rapids Horse Show. In Galena, she participated in the Artist’s Guild, Jo Davies County League of Women Voters, Historical Society, ARC, and Galena Art Foundation, and was an Instructor Member of the Association for Horsemanship Safety and Education. Barb was an avid lover of animals and the outdoors. She enjoyed painting and gardening on the hill behind her house overlooking downtown Galena. When she wasn’t in her garden or spending time with her family, you could find her out at the stable riding her horses, fox hunting, and participating in horse shows. She also enjoyed participating in the many parades of Galena with her husband.
Barb and Robert Matias had three sons, Michael (Kathy) of Marion, James of Cedar Rapids, and Matthew (Kim) of Fairfax. Barb loved spending time with her grandchildren, Jon Matias, Nicole (Doug) Tallerico, Chelsea (Jacob) Lancaster, Mitchell Matias, Brandon Matias, and Stephen Matias, and adored her great-grandchildren, Harrison, William, Owen, and Ilia. She also enjoyed her stepchildren, Ann Martin, Robert “Buzz” Johnson, Meleah Mathahs, Dan Johnson, their families, and her many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Robert Johnson.

Mary Darlene Millard
Darlene Millard, 82, died peacefully Friday, March 31, 2023 surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on April 15th, 2023, at St Philomena Catholic Church, 338 Chestnut St. Belmont, WI, 53510 where a Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in The Rock Cemetery in Livingston, WI at a later date. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, Dubuque, Iowa is assisting the family.
She was born October 17, 1940. She was the daughter of Carl and Mabel Peterson. Darlene married Harry Millard on November 23, 1963. She enjoyed her family, lunches with friends, day trips, nature, writing, face-booking, holidays, cooking shows and parties.
She worked as the administrator at Sunnycrest Manor from 1975 to her retirement in 2006. She dedicated herself to the staff and residents. She was very proud of the home and heart program that she was instrumental in starting.
Darlene is survived by her children: Jerry (Janelle) Millard and Shannon (Jeff) Hammerand. Her grandchildren: Jake, Layne and Holli whom she loved with all of her heart.

Howard Haigh
Howard Haigh, 78, of Asbury died Tuesday, April 4, 2023, in Dubuque. The visitation will be held Monday, April 10 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, Dubuque, Iowa. A Celebration of Life and burial at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City, IA will take place at a later date.
Howard was born in Manchester, Iowa on March 21,1945 to Howard Lain Haigh and Ula Juanita (Bacon) Haigh. He graduated from West Delaware High School in 1963 where he participated in football, wrestling, golf, and theater.
Howard attended the University of Iowa. In 1967, he entered the workforce and then enrolled in the United States Army. He spent six months training in Ft. Holabird in Baltimore, Maryland at the military intelligence school. He served in Vietnam from 1968-1969 as military intelligence officer with the 525th military intelligence group, followed by a year in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina with the Continental Intelligence Command.
Howard earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa, in 1971. He earned his graduate degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1972. He worked for one year at Ft. Dodge Community College. In 1973, he began his career with the Iowa Department of Human Services in Cedar Rapids, IA. He was employed as a social worker, youth service worker, supervisor, and Family Therapist.
Howard married Susan Davison on April 28,1979 in Iowa City. Following their time living in North Carolina and Mount Vernon, Iowa, they moved to Dubuque where Howard started his career with Hillcrest Family Services.There he served as a social worker, supervisor, and eventually Director of Adult Mental Health Services where he developed and administered clinics and facilities in Eastern Iowa.
Howard was a skilled therapist, a strong and gentle leader; and appreciated by staff and administration. He received two awards for leadership: The Iowa Association of Community Providers and the Nancy Hill Award for Service and Leadership. Following retirement, he continued his work with Hillcrest in mission advancement until 2020.
He also served as the President and member of the Dubuque Mental Health Association; received training for family therapy from Mental Health Institute in Palo Alto, California. He was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa and a member of the state Mental Health Advisory Board with Magellan.
Howard had many interests and hobbies and was known for his lifelong love of sailing. Whether he was boating on Lake McBride with family and friends, navigating destroyers with the United States Navy Reserve, chartering on the Great lakes, or steering a retired America’s cup ship in Australia, he had a delighted smile with each adventure. His joy extended to teaching Sue, his daughters, and grandchildren these skills.
Woodworking was another passion, he and a childhood friend built two wooden sailboats together. They also were working on a larger version of their original, but probably most enjoyed the planning aspects. Howard, his father, and brothers worked together to help build Howard and Sue’s first home. Later Howard could be found teaching his grandchildren how to build wooden cars, boats, airplanes, or anything else that they could imagine.
Building and testing model rockets was another interest. The only rule was to make sure that the Federal Aviation Administration knew when they were set off. His goal was to build a rocket that would reach the speed of sound.
Howard was an avid reader, on topics of history, economics, Egyptology, opera or other eclectic interests. He could discuss anything and was truly a “renaissance man” in his learning and conversations especially with his coffee groups. He loved a good discussion, and one could see that twinkle in his eye when he was about to make a point.
Howard was a strong liberal and good Democrat; he served as a delegate at county conventions and often served on the Democratic platform committee. He was Sue’s dear partner in promoting the Palestinian cause and he was proud of that heritage and culture. The annual Palestinian dinners for family and friends were filled with Middle Eastern food, music, comradery, and all looked forward to his special preparation of the roast lamb.
He and Sue took many wonderful trips across the world. One of his greatest joys was watching his daughters as they explored Europe for the first time. Other favorite trips included, a month living in Paris, Russia, trips to meet Sue’s family in Palestine, and meeting his new grandchildren in Korea. The annual family time in Florida, Door County, and the Smoky Mountains, offered time to be with Sue, his beloved daughters, wonderful son- in-laws and delightful grandchildren. After retirement they would winter in Gulf Shores, Alabama along with many good friends and family. Watching his entire family playing on the beach were such special memories for him.
His true love was for his family. He was the most beloved and best friend to Sue, his wife of nearly 44 years. He was adored by his two daughters Sara and Shannon, and he was so proud of them. He was a gentle, safe, and caring influence and had a delightful and creative sense of humor. He taught his daughters and grandchildren to play chess, to sail, the joy of exploring the world, as well as the important lessons of life. He was a good friend to his family, to his sons-in-law and to all who knew him. His quiet gentleness, wisdom and unconditional love will be so missed.
Howard is survived by wife Sue Davison, daughters, Sara (Mike) Wiedemann, Shannon (John) Davison-Wiese, four grandchildren, Nicholas and Addison Wiedemann, Alex and Madelyn Wiese; a brother, Hartsel (Kitty) Haigh; sister, Ulaine (Harry) Delancey, sister- in-law, Anne Davison; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Ula (Bacon) Haigh and his brother, Hubert (Lynn) Haigh.
Thank you to so many people for the supportive care of Howard during his illness. To our amazing family and lifelong friends; our dear personal health staff of Chloe, Rachel, Abby, Steph, Caitlin, Avery and also to Lisa, Susan, Mary, Rosa, Gretchen, Alex, John, Tammi, Tori, Theresa and the many others that made this difficult journey easier.

Rita M. Lang
Rita Mae Lang, 86, of Dubuque, was called home to God on Monday, April 3, 2023.
Visitation will be from 9:00 am until 11:00 am Friday, April 7, 2023 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
The Funeral Service for Rita will be 11:00 am Friday, April 7, 2023, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Cremation Service with Deacon John Stierman officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.
Rita was born May 3, 1936, in Waukon, IA, the daughter of Hugh and Theresa Griffin Regan. On September 8, 1962, she married Allen Lang, Jr. at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dubuque. He passed away November 28, 1998.
She was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. After she raised her children, she volunteered and worked as a daycare provider. Some of her favorite things were “cute dogs and kittens”, sweets of almost any kind, and, above all, her family. Her greatest joy and most peaceful times were spent with her family, even in her last days.
She is survived by her three loving children, daughter and best friend, Donna (John) Gotto of Epworth, IA, sons, Gary Lang and John Lang, both of Dubuque; her two special granddaughters, Jessica Lang, and Heather (Eric) Prine and two great-granddaughters, Paisley Mae and Naomi Kay, all of Dubuque; four step-grandsons, Jonathon (Amber) Gotto and Joseph Gotto, both of Epworth, James (Samantha) Gotto of Marion, IA, and Jacob (Shania) Gotto of Hastings, MN; six step-great-grandchildren with one more on the way; and one sister, LaVonne Kerth of Dubuque.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Marcella McGough, and four brothers, Paul, Frank, Larry and Raymond Regan.
A memorial has been established.
The family thanks her special caregiver, Amanda, for all of the care and compassion given to Rita over the last several years, and a heartfelt thanks to Cherie, her dear friend.

Sandra Klossner
Sandra Lee Elizabeth Ann Klossner “Sandy”, of Asbury Iowa, passed away on Sunday, April 2nd, 2023, at the age of 81.
She was married to Jerry Klossner on November 8, 1958, in Dubuque. She was co-manager of Penn Place Apartments for over 25 years.
Sandy is survived by her children Cheryl Neyens, Becky (Kevin) Foht, and Lisa Klossner; sisters Pamela (Theodore) Pffiffner and Christine (Eugene) Muntz; nieces and nephews, 11 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren and her good friends Hazel Lambert, Barb Keirnan and Karen Litscher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Klossner; her parents Andrew “Andy” and Margaret “Peggy” Ohnesorge, and her great-grandson Landon.
Sandy was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, grandmother, and great-grandmother. The family would like to thank the staff at Hawkeye Care Center for the wonderful care they provided.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be allocated to Hawkeye Care Center for activities, which Sandy always enjoyed.

Louis R. Manders
Louis R. “Butch” Manders, 78, of St. Catherine, Iowa, passed away on March 31, 2023 at MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday April 11, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Donatus Catholic Church with Father David Ambrosy officiating.
Friends and family may visit from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday April 10, 2023 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, with a wake service starting at 3:45 p.m.
Louis was born on April 7, 1944 in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Louis and Bendina (Rubel) Manders. He married Patricia Breth at Grandview United Methodist Church on June 1, 2001.
Louis was a carpenter his whole life and owned and operated Manders Construction Company. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing, and loved spending time with his family and friends – especially at the Friday night bonfires.
Louis is survived by his wife Pat, son Rick (Sherry) Manders of Granbury, TX, step-daughters Tammy (Patrick) Leftridge of Valles Mines, MO, and Lynn (Idder) Elrghachi of Tamarac, FL, 13 grandchidlren, four step-grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, six step great-grandchildren, and sisters Patty (Fritz) Ames, Mary (David) Jacobsmeyer, and Charlotte (Tom) Pfeiffer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Nicole Peters, step-daughter Lisa Brown-VanArsdale, grandson Louis Manders, and sister Lois Sweeney.

Monica M. Cole
Monica M. Cole, age 71, of Dubuque, passed away at 1:47 a.m., on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at UnityPoint Health Finley Hospital surrounded by her loving family. To honor Monica’s life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street. Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday at Behr Funeral Home, with Pastor Tony Foeller officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery at a later date following cremation.
Monica was born on February 16, 1952, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Marvin and Marie (Fluor) Stokes.
Monica graduated from St. Joseph School in Farley, Iowa, Class of 1970. After school, she married Gary Bries on July 17, 1971, at St. Joseph Church in Farley. They had 2 wonderful children together before deciding to go their separate ways. She was a hard worker and was employed with Piekenbrock Pajama and as a waitress at the Oasis Truck Stop. After that, Monica went to work with Frommelt Industries and lastly at Rite Hite until her well earned retirement. In the 90’s she occasionally bartended at the King of Clubs where she met Jerry Lee Cole. The two married on July 2, 1992, in Branson, Missouri, but sadly Jerry passed away on May 19, 1994. Luckily, she would find love again with Dave Kaune in 1995, and the two have been together ever since. In her free time, Monica enjoyed baking, sewing, craft projects and a little retail therapy. She was always on the lookout for a great deal. She also enjoyed going shooting at Central Range with Dave and his friends and riding side by sides. Traveling was another of Monica’s favorite activities. She enjoyed day trips as well as long excursions, but her true love was camping with family and friends. Monica was a wonderful woman who took great care of everyone around her. She will be greatly missed.

Sr. Marian Klostermann
SISTER MARIAN (JOANNA) KLOSTERMANN, age 90, of Clare House, Dubuque, Iowa died at 3:00 a.m. Sunday, April 2, 2023, at Clare House.
The Rite of Final Committal was held at the Clare House Chapel, Mount St. Francis Center at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2023 followed by burial at the Sisters of St. Francis natural burial site. Sister Marian was born July 29, 1932 in Petersburg, IA, the daughter of John and Catherine (Nurre) Klostermann.
She entered the Sisters of St. Francis on September 4, 1952 and made final profession of vows August 10, 1958. Sister received her master’s degree in pastoral ministry from Creighton University, Omaha, NE. She ministered as an educator in Iowa at St. Mary, Waterloo; St. Michael, Sioux City; Monticello; Worthington; and Crescent City, CA. She was also missioned at Mercy Health Center, Sioux City, IA; St. Bernard, Omaha, NE; Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque, IA; Maloy, IA; and St. Francis of Assisi, Omaha, NE.
Sister Marian is survived by her nieces, nephews, and her Franciscan sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Zita (Clement) Lansing, Helen (Charles) Wessels, Dorothy (Allie) Olberding, Jenny (Irvin) Conrad, Mildred (Alvin) Schlichte, and Donna (Robert) Juran; and her brothers, Everett (Bernice) Klostermann and Walter (Helen) Klostermann.

Linda Mae Bailey, 78, of Potosi, WI passed away on March 31, 2023, at UnityPoint Health, Finley Hospital.

Linda was born on December 10, 1944, in Prairie du Chien, WI to Floyd and Elda Mae (Dohse) Churchill.
She married Clifford T. Bailey just two weeks after meeting on December 31, 1964. She worked at Loudspeaker Components Factory for 13 years. She was the Union Steward at Loudspeaker Component Factory.
Linda loved to play games with her family and friends; she enjoyed traveling, live comedy shows, enjoyed to fish and hunt and was an avid Elvis Presley fan.
She is survived by her daughter Hope McDermott; her brother Floyd Churchill; sisters-in-law Clare Churchill and mary Jo Churchill; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Linda is preceded in death by her husband Clifford, her mother and father; her siblings Joyce Schilling, Calvin Churchill, Connie Bradley, Lennie Churchill, and Cheryl Schurman and her daughter April way.

Elena Rose Ties
Elena Rose Ties, 11-month-old daughter of Mallory Tomkins and Jacob Ties passed away on March 31, 2023, at UnityPoint Health Finley Hospital. Elena was born on April 28th, 2022, at Finley Hospital.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5th, 2023, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road with a service to conclude at 4:00 p.m.
Elena loved to blow bubbles and just hang out with her parents and siblings. She loved listening to her musical toys and watching anything with colors.
Elena is survived by parents Mallory Tomkins and Jacob Ties; her sister Allison Ties and brother Dallas Ties. Her grandparents Christina Ties, Charlie Ties Jr, Melissa Murphy and Bruce Murphy along with her great grandpa Charles Ties Sr. She is also survived by her aunts: Alissa Ties, Brianna Murphy, Felicia Murphy, and Marion Learman; her uncle Brandon Ties and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by a cousin Heather Mitchell-Key, great great grandma Key, great great grandma Carroll, great grandma Murphy, great grandma and grandpa Tomkins.

Hazel V. Hayes
Hazel V. Hayes, 88, of Dubuque, died Sunday, April 2, 2023, at the Sunnycrest Manor in Dubuque.
The Funeral Service for Hazel will be 11:00 am Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory with Captain Laura Amick officiating. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery in Centerville, IA, at a later date. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Hazel was born February 7, 1935, in Trenton, MO, the daughter of Ferrol and Virginia Phillips Brown. She was united in marriage to Bert E. Hayes in 1954 in Des Moines, IA. He preceded her in death on November 21, 2013.
Hazel attended the Salvation Army Church. She loved playing Bingo, going shopping, and sitting outside with Bert. Hazel also enjoyed going to get her hair and nails done. Above all, she loved being in the company of others, especially her family.
Survivors include her six daughters, Michelle (Kevin) O’Conner of Dubuque; Julie (Rick) Carner of Cascade, IA; Debbie (Harold) Birch of Dubuque; Brenda (Roger) McChesney of Albert City, IA; Linda (Mike) Ristau of Dubuque; and Sherry Bailey of Sac City, IA; 24 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; three brothers, George, Ralph, and Kenny Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Charles Brown; and sister, Coleen Lawson
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

Bruce C. Wilson
Bruce C. Wilson, 83, of Cuba City, Wisconsin, passed away Friday, March 31, 2023. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at Community Evangelical Free Church, Platteville, Wisconsin, with Pastor Larry Lloyd officiating. Burial will be in Platteville Hillside Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 9-11:45 a.m. Tuesday at the church prior to the service. Casey-McNett Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Cuba City is assisting the family.
Bruce was born on December 13, 1939 in Cuba City, Wisconsin, the son of Laverne and Mary (Scheffer) Wilson. He was united in marriage to Karen Birch on May 27, 2000 at Eagle Point Park in Dubuque, Iowa.
Bruce worked at the Dubuque Packing Company and Hoard’s Dairyman, in addition to farming. He was a member of the National Farmers Organization. Bruce enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and finding new restaurants to try. He was a jokester who enjoyed making people laugh and smile. Bruce was a good friend to the Amish community and helped them in many ways. He loved the Packers and never missed a game. Above all, Bruce loved spending time with his family, especially traveling with them throughout the tri-state area. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Karen Wilson, Cuba City; 14 children, Kevin Wilson, Calvin (Rose) Wilson, Kim (Abby) Wilson, and Theresea (Bill) Wiederholt, all of Cuba City, Aime (Dean) Arndt, Black River Falls, WI, Renee (Jeff) Troester, Mineral Point, WI, Michelle (Luke) Skic, Merrill, WI, Stacey (Adam) Lindsay, Cuba City, Peggy Jordan, Minneapolis, MN, Curt (Joyce) Wilson, Elroy, WI, Travis (Jessie) Wilson, Cuba City, Brandon (April) Wilson, Louisburg, WI, Brad (Bret) Wilson, South Wayne, WI, and Olivia (Wade) Schwartz, Louisburg, WI; two sisters, Betty Loeffelholz, Cuba City, and Sandra (John) Irace, St. Louis, MO; one brother, Keith (Tama) Wilson, Cuba City; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his former wife, Vicky Yerke.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife, Mary Wilson; a sister, Bonnie (Elsworth) Simmons; a brother-in-law, Beanie Loeffelholz; and a grandson, Dylan Wilson.

Joseph G. Abitz
Joseph G. “Crow” Abitz, age 54, of Dubuque, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at The Richland Hospital in Richland Center, Wisconsin. To honor Joe’s life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, where there will be a parish scripture service held at 6:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Holy Spirit Parish, Sacred Heart Church, 2215 Windsor Avenue, with Steven M. Garner officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Joe was born on December 6, 1968, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Leo and LaVon (Herbst) Abitz.
Joe attended Sacred Heart Grade School and graduated from Dubuque Senior High School, Class of 1987. He loved telling the story that right after graduation he threw his cap and gown to the side and headed to Canada for a fishing trip. When he returned, Joe went to work at Breitbach’s Feed Store in Balltown driving truck and making deliveries. After that, he went to work at Tracy Export and Reilly Construction. Joe’s true passion was being in the great outdoors, which led to his dream job of working in the logging industry. He was in the industry for over 20 years doing every job imaginable. He worked for various companies including The Nature Tamers and also started his own company, Joe Abitz Logging. Joe liked the freedom it allowed him so that he could get time away for all of his activities. He loved all types of fishing, especially with his son, Joe, hiking and collecting trinkets with his daughter, Sadie, hunting deer with his friends, mushroom hunting and diving for clams. Joe was a proud member of Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever and North American Fisherman’s Club. He married Tina Hefel and they had 2 children together before deciding to go their separate ways. His kids and family meant the world to him. Everyone who knew him, knew that Joe lived his life to the fullest, a good lesson for all of us. He was larger than life with a heart of gold, never passing judgement on anyone. Joe was a jack of all trades who could fix anything. He was very generous with his time and talents and did everything he could to help anyone in need. Joe was an awesome story teller and had plenty of stories to tell thanks to all of his adventures. You could always count on having a good laugh if Joe was around. He will be greatly missed.
