Patricia Kenyon

Patricia “Pat” Kenyon, 83, peacefully passed away at 2:04 p.m., embraced in her granddaughter, Jami’s hug at home in Irwin, Ohio on February 28, 2025.

Pat was born on August 29, 1941, in Dubuque, Iowa to Vincent and Mary (Schmitt) Jungers. She married Glen Kenyon on September 12, 1959. They raised their family in East Dubuque, Illinois.

Pat was very creative and loved reading. She enjoyed baking, ceramics, beading, sewing, and knitting. In May 2000, Glen passed away. Pat decided to pursue their dream to move to Arizona. She made friends easily there and quickly got involved in new activities including Mahjong, bocce ball, book clubs, and volunteering in her community. She loved having her grandkids, Dylan, Chloe, and Sarah so close and their frequent visits.

In 2020, when she needed to be closer to family to care for her, she moved to Ohio to be with her granddaughter and her family, Jami (Derrick) Kenyon and her great grandkids, Rylee, Alli, Loxli, and Adler. Pat also reconnected with her former daughter-in-law, Laurie (Kieler, Kenyon) Schumacher, and continued their mother/daughter like bond as if time had never passed. She spent her final months living with Jami and her family and cherished the years she had so close to them all.

Patricia is survived by her brothers Ron (Lois) Jungers, Paul (Shari) Jungers; former daughters-in-law, Laurie (Mike) Schumacher, Nicole (Jaksic) Kenyon; daughter and son, Kim Rech and Randy Kenyon, both of whom were estranged; 9 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Glen Kenyon; son Christopher Kenyon; sister Donna Zaug; and sister Cary Oswald.

Pat’s sarcasm, contagious smile, and love she shared will continue in this world through all the lives she has touched in her lifetime. The empty space she now leaves in this world will be filled with comfort from the memories she leaves behind, and the unconditional love she gave us while she was here. Her room she leaves empty in Jami’s home will always be Granny’s room, filled with playful times, smart remarks, and getting her great grandkids out of trouble one too many times. Her daily “Good mornings, hi’s, come on ins, and good nights” will be deeply missed.

May the sadness of our loss of Pat’s beautiful soul bring us peace, knowing she was reunited with wide open arms from Glen and Chris as her glowing soul crossed over

Jami will take her to be buried at Dubuque Memorial Gardens with a service at a later date.

Arrangements are entrusted to SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg, Ohio.

Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.vernonfh.com.

Carla R. Beyer

Carla R. Beyer, age 59, of Dubuque, IA, completed her earthly journey on March 4, 2025, at home while surrounded by her loving family. To honor Carla’s life, a celebration in her memory will be held in the spring. The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Carla’s family.

Carla was born on March 18, 1965, in Dubuque, IA, a daughter to Edward F. and Anna A. (Giunta) Beyer. She was gifted with a keen mind, a tender heart, and a strong work ethic which was clearly evident to all who knew and loved her. Carla majored in mathematics and found great joy in sharing her talents as a tutor for many years. She also spent over 40 years being the friendly face who was there to serve you at Country Kitchen, Ground Round, and the Village Inn. Carla was a big people person through and through and to meet her was to love her. If you weren’t friends with Carla after spending any amount of time in her orbit, it was only due to your personal resistance to her outgoing and empathetic attitude towards others and life.

Carla was also a gifted athlete and enjoyed perfecting her skills at volleyball, softball, and basketball. Although skilled in many sports she combined her love for mathematics and courts/fields to become a sports manager and score keeper through high school and college. Carla was also an avid reader and when the day was done, she made no qualms about grabbing her latest book and getting comfortable in her favorite chair. But, for those who knew Carla best, there was no denying that family was where her greatest joy was truly found. Her love and adoration for those around her was continually on display and no one ever had to wonder where they stood in Carla’s heart; always at the top of mind.

Carla lived her live with real diligence towards one common goal each and every day. Quality over quantity was her life’s motto. This mode of operation brought not only her much joy and satisfaction throughout her life, but thankfully, it also became a tangible blessing for everyone else as well. We cannot even imagine moving forward in this life without our fearless matriarch leading the way. Her love was boundless, her patience enduring, and every word, thought, and action she developed was centered on others long before it ever came back around to herself. Thank you, Carla, for living life as a wonderful example we can all be honored to emulate. May your legacy thrive vividly within our lives as we all wait patiently, and yet somewhat eagerly to see your beautiful smile once again.

Those left to cherish the memory of Carla include,

her three adored daughters,
Ashley M. (Cordell Evans) Denlinger, Dubuque, IA,
Katelyn R. Beyer, Dubuque, IA,
and Alexis M. (Lee) North, Belmont, WI;

her beloved grandchildren,
Cayden North, Evan England, Kaiden Beyer, MJ Beyer, Kimberly Denlinger, and Adeline North;

her siblings,
Paul (Shelly) Beyer, Dubuque, IA,
James “Jim” (Patti) Beyer, Dubuque, IA,
Robert (Julie) Beyer, Dubuque, IA,
and Mary Bradley, Dubuque, IA;

her sister-in-law, Michele Beyer, Dubuque, IA;

along with numerous extended family, friends, and neighbors.

Carla was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents; her sister, Rose Beyer; her brother, David Beyer; her brother-in-law, John Bradley; and her niece, Becky Menster.

Becky L. Spillane

Becky Lynn Spillane, 54, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away peacefully at home on March 1, 2025, surrounded by family, after a valiant 6 1/2 year battle with cancer. She leaves behind a large circle of family and friends who will cling to the joyful memories they made with her until the very end and who will take solace in knowing she has found eternal peace. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 PM, Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel in Galena, where friends may gather after 10 AM until the time of service. At Becky’s request, all are encouraged to wear apparel representing their favorite sports team. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Becky was born on September 3, 1970, to John and Mary Thill, and grew up in Potosi, WI, the second youngest of six children. She loved playing basketball, qualifying for state in the Knights of Columbus free throw contest. She graduated from Potosi High School and met Brian Spillane. They were married on October 9, 1993, at St. Francis de Sales, in Hazel Green, WI. They had two children, Austin and Ellie, who were the light of Becky’s world. She read to her children each night after work, no matter how tired she was, instilling in each a lifelong love of reading. She never missed a school activity if she could help it, and her kids kept her busy.

She worked as a dental assistant at Bierie Dental in Dubuque, IA, for over 22 years. Patients knew her welcoming smile from behind her mask. Her coworkers knew her as a reliable colleague and friend. Becky enjoyed skiing, golfing, and bowling. She was the better half of the couple in the couple’s bowling league. She was also an avid sports fan who rooted for all Wisconsin sports teams, although she also adopted her children’s college teams as her own. In later years, she embraced traveling, making memories with loved ones from the sandy beaches of Belize to the crystal lakes of Maine.

Becky is survived by her husband of 31 years, Brian; her children, Austin (Connor Petit) Spillane and Ellie (Dobson) Douglass; her mother, Mary Thill; her siblings, Tammy (Gary) Ames, Lonnie (Joan) Thill, Tom (Becky) Thill, Maury (Deb) Thill, and Mollie McDonald;  her brothers-in-law, Mike (Lori) Spillane and Greg (Sue) Spillane; many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; and a devoted yellow labrador, Auggie.

She is preceded in death by her father, John Thill; her parents-in-law, Ron and Rose Spillane; and her brother-in-law, Dave Spillane.

The family would like to thank all of our friends and family who have provided so much love these past few years. It has truly been a reminder of the value of community. Special thanks to the caring and attentive oncology team at Grand River Medical Group, especially Dr. Mark Hermann, MD, and Tony Heiar, ARNP. O
