William J. Jentz

William “Bill” Joseph Jentz, 55, of Dubuque, IA., passed away Sunday January 8, 2023 peacefully at home.

Friends and family may visit from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday January 15, 2023 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where a funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. with Deacon David Roth officiating.

Bill was born on April 3, 1967, in Dubuque, son of Joseph Jentz and Janis Herman. He married Elizabeth “Beth” Kersch on July 25, 1998, in Las Vegas. Bill worked for Rafoth Roofing for many years before becoming a drywaller.

He was a man with many talents who will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Beth, son William “Bill” (Tabetha) Jr., daughter Katherine “Katie”, grandchildren Brooke, Leah, Emily, Landin, and Laila, his mother Janis Groh, siblings Wendy (Phil) Nelson, Joe Jentz, and Rich (Misty) Jentz.

 


 

Gary L. Oliver

Gary L. Oliver, age 79, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away at 8:51 a.m., on Monday, January 9, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family.  To honor Gary’s life, family and friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, January 13, 2023, at Behr Funeral Home with Deacon David Roth officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.

Gary was born on April 17, 1943, in Dubuque, son of Leo and Sophia (Hamsmith) Oliver.

Gary was a life long resident of Dubuque where he graduated from Dubuque Senior High School, Class of 1961.  After school, he honorably served his country by enlisting with the U.S. Army where he was a cook.  Upon returning to Iowa his first mission was to buy his dream car, a brand new 1969 Pontiac GTO.  With the help of his new GTO, Gary met a lovely young woman and would go on to make her his wife.  He was united in marriage to Mary Lou Harry on May 21, 1971, at the Church of the Nativity.  Together they had 4 wonderful children and celebrated their 51st Wedding Anniversary last spring.  Gary worked hard to provide for his family and was employed with Hallmark Drywall in Madison for several years.  He started out as a lather and ended his career as a Foreman.  Gary was proud of his trade and a long time member of Carpenters Local 678.  In his free time Gary liked watching sports.  He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan with the wardrobe to prove it and also faithfully followed the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. He also enjoyed working on projects around the house and helping others who needed his expertise.  Gary was a family man and he cherished spending time at home with Mary Lou, the children, grandchildren and his many little dogs he has spoiled over the years.  He will be greatly missed.

Gary’s family would like to thank Dr. Narayanan and his staff at the University of Iowa, the nurses and staff of Hospice of Dubuque, especially Jeremiah, his RN at Finley, Janet Mueller, his Speech Therapist, Jill Bries and Occupational Therapist, Carrie Rausch, for all of the outstanding care and support they provided for Gary.

Chad Janco

Chad “Buck” Janco, 46, went home to be with his Lord on January 6, 2023, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, Iowa.  He was surrounded by family who loved him and will miss him.

A visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 am, Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m.

Chad was born May 30, 1976, in Dubuque, son of Steve and Brenda (Brown) Janco.

He graduated from Hempstead High School in 1997.

Chad worked with his Hills and Dales coworkers at the Lifetime Center.

He enjoyed watching game shows on TV, going bowling, watching his nieces and nephew play, playing basketball, swinging as high as possible and spending time with family.  He was a Packers fan, and enjoyed watching the Jazz play basketball.

Chad is survived by his parents, Steve and Brenda; his sister and her husband, Kiersten and Allen Schumacher, nieces, Adria and Katherine Schumacher; nephew, Patrick Schumacher; five aunts and an uncle; and all his friends at Hills and Dales where he lived.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Curtis and Louella Brown and John and Eva Janco; and several aunts and uncles.

Shirley A. Allen

Shirley Ann Allen, 92, of Peosta, Iowa, passed away on January 5, 2023, with her daughter by her side.

The Mass of Christian Burial Services will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 20, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with Rev. Brian Dellaert officiating and the Rev. Douglas Loecke concelebrating.  Burial will be in the Resurrection Garden Mausoleum at Mount Calvary Cemetery.  Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3860 Asbury Road, is in care of the arrangements.

Shirley was born October 31, 1930, in Quincy, IL, to Elmo and Elsie Damhorst.  She graduated from Fontbonne College in St. Louis in 1952 with a degree in business.  She married Charles M. Allen on May 2, 1953.

Shirley dedicated her life to being a loving wife and mother and was a source of inspiration to her children.  She was a woman of strong faith and found comfort in her daily recitation of the rosary.

Shirley is survived by her children, David (Diane) Allen of Houston, TX, Diane (Earl) Zismer of Dubuque, IA, Michael (Michele Dezes) Allen of Los Angeles, CA; beloved granddaughter, Jennifer Ashleigh Allen (Daniel Hix) of Atlanta, GA; and nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmo & Elsie Damhorst; husband, Charles Allen; and sister, Patricia Gassett.

Mary Jean Hanfeld

Mary Jean Hanfeld, 76, of Kieler, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 8, 2023, at home surrounded by family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Church in Kieler, Wisconsin, with Rev. Bart Timmerman and Rev. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Family and friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, January 12 at the Immaculate Conception Church Parish Hall where there will be a Parish Rosary Service at 2:45 p.m. Friends may also call from 9-10:45 a.m. Friday at the parish hall prior to the service. Casey-McNett Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Cuba City is assisting the family.

Mary Jean was born on September 1, 1946, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Donald and Elaine (Dalsing) Brandt. She was united in marriage to Norman P. Hanfeld on May, 23, 1970, at Immaculate Conception Church in Kieler.

Mary Jean worked as an accountant for Interstate Power, the University of Dubuque and Kieler Sanitation. She was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Parish, serving as a Eucharistic minister and helping with the CCW. Mary Jean loved golfing, walking, exercising, following the Chicago Bears and playing Canasta with her sisters. She was always ready for an adventure. Mary Jean enjoyed traveling both within and outside the U.S, and was always happy to be the “extra” who stayed back to care for the little ones. Mary Jean loved her family more than anything. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and never missed her grandchildren’s school and sporting events.

Mary Jean is survived by her husband, Norm Hanfeld, Kieler; a son, Tony (Leslie) Hanfeld, Monona, WI; a daughter-in-law, Tracy Hanfeld, Lancaster, WI; six grandchildren, Meagan (Steve) Caron, Abigail Lord, Blake Hanfeld, Lucy (fiancée, Jessica Habick) Kniebuehler, Alexander Hanfeld and Logan (fiancée, Destiny Messer) Kniebuehler; and six siblings, Bob (Janette) Brandt, Karen Timmerman and John (Sharon) Brandt, all of Kieler, Diane (Rick) Downing, Iowa City, IA, and David Brandt and Joan (John) McClain, both of Kieler.

Mary Jean was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mike Hanfeld; a sister, Janice Brandt; and a brother-in-law, Elmer Timmerman.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Hospice of Dubuque.

Sr. James Marie Gross, PBVM

Sister James Marie Gross, PBVM, 97, died on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at the Sisters of the Presentation (Mount Loretto), 2360 Carter Road.

On Tuesday, January 10, 2023, friends may call from 9:30 – 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, Sisters of the Presentation, where there will be a wake service at 9:30 a.m.and funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West. Visitors are asked to wear a mask if they have any symptoms or to refrain from coming.

Sister James Marie, daughter of James (Jacob) and Mary (Dynan), was born Mary Evelyn Gross on April 13, 1925, in Rockville, Minnesota. She entered the Sisters of the Presentation from St. Cloud, Minnesota on September 8, 1949, and professed her perpetual vows on June 19, 1955.

She earned an Associate of Arts from St. Cloud Teachers College in St. Cloud, Minnesota, a Bachelor of Arts from Clarke College (now Clarke University) in Dubuque, Iowa, and a Master of Arts from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. Sister James Marie served as an elementary teacher and principal in Catholic schools in Waukon and Dubuque, Iowa, and was a mathematics professor at Clarke for 34 years. She retired to Mount Loretto in 1999 and celebrated her 60 th Jubilee in 2009. In retirement, Sister James Marie tutored English at the Presentation Lantern Center, coordinated mission materials and tutored math. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting, cultivating roses, singing, baking and reading. She valued prayer and community service. “The genuine hospitality, simple lifestyle and commitment to serve the needs of the church are what attracted me to this community,” stated Sister James Marie. “Memories of the many people whose lives we touched and, hopefully enriched, bring much joy and gratitude for the many ways community supported our efforts to bring the good news to especially the poor and disadvantaged.”

Surviving are her nieces, nephews, and the Sisters of the Presentation with whom she shared her life for 73 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Eleanor Donovan and her brothers, John, James, Louis and Daniel.

Lynda Kenneally

Lynda Kenneally, 78, of Bernard, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home on Friday January 6, 2023.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 9th, 2023 at St. Patrick’s Church Garryowen with Fr. Mark Osterhaus officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visiation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Monday at the church. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, Dubuque, Iowa is assisting the family.

Lynda was born on April 15, 1944 in Haynes, North Dakota, daughter of Joe and Lois Warbis and moved to the Dubuque area in 1960. She was united in marriage to Robert Kenneally in August 1962. Lynda was also a registered nurse and worked at Ennoble Manor for 20 years, 10 of which she also served as their Director of Nursing, prior to retiring.

Lynda was known for her spicy personality. She loved being involved with her family and community and never passed up a good hug. From teaching her kids and grandkids to bake and sew to helping run cattle shows, she dedicated her life to being a mom, grandma and friend to many.

Lynda is survived by her husband Robert Kenneally, children Deb (Kevin) Rea, Bob (Cathy) Kenneally Jr., Ron (Jody) Kenneally and Dianna (Bart) Elder, and grandchildren Brandon (Rachel), Nick, Eric, Amanda, Ryan, Daniel, Kiley, Brady and Parker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Jack Warbis, Glen Warbis, Monte Warbis, Bob Warbis and Ron “Bud” Warbis, and grandson Sean Kenneally.

 


 

Randy R. Weimerskirch

Randy R. Weimerskirch, 42, of Clinton, Iowa, died on Sunday morning, January 1, 2023, at MercyOne in Clinton, Iowa.

A celebration of Randy’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 P.M., Monday, January 9, 2023, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  Burial will be at Holy Rosary Cemetery, LaMotte, Iowa, at a later date.  Please wear the color green or Detroit Lions attire in honor of Randy’s favorite color and team.

Randy Ronald Weimerskirch was born on March 17, 1980 in Dubuque, Iowa, to Virgil and Verla (Ambrosy) Weimerskirch.  He attended Andrew schools.  He had worked various factory and construction jobs throughout eastern Iowa for many years until becoming disabled.

Randy had two children, James Weimerskirch and Nathaniel Hughes, with his longtime girlfriend, Angie Hughes.  He later married Jamie Milder in Maquoketa, Iowa, and they had three children, Ryker Weimerskirch, Darwin Lee Weimerskirch, and Joellen Weimerskirch.

Randy enjoyed fishing, camping, tinkering with vehicles and cuddling with his emotional support dog, Maya.  He loved the color green and he was an avid fan of the Detroit Lions.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, James, Nathaniel, Ryker, and Joellen; his parents, Virgil and Verla Weimerskirch of LaMotte, IA; brothers, Don (Michele) Weimerskirch of Davenport, IA, Allen (Janelle) Weimerskirch of Cedar Falls, IA, and Brian (Kim) Weimerskirch of Bellevue, IA; sisters, Karen (Rich) McCarthy of East Dubuque, IL, Cheri (LeRoy) Mohr of Charlotte, IA, Nancy (Doug) Lane of Spragueville, IA, Vicki (Phillip) Boughton of Clinton, IA, Patti (Travis) Trenkamp of Charlotte, IA, Mary Jo (Phil) Harris of Bellevue, IA, and Lindy (Chris) Hart of Delmar, IA; and numerous, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, infant son Darwin Lee Weimerskirch, brother James Weimerskirch on August 25, 1990, and a sister Tara Ann Weimerskirch on August 25, 2007.

Hunter C. Krapfl

Hunter C. Krapfl, 29, of Dyersville, Iowa, found eternal peace on January 2, 2023. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday January 10, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, with military honors accorded by American Legion Post #6 and the United States Iowa National Guard. Friends and family may visit from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Hunter was born on April 2, 1993, son of Gary and Sherry (Tegeler) Krapfl. He married Alyssa Krapfl on October 8, 2011, in Dubuque, Iowa. He was employed at Midwest Diesel in Dubuque. He lived life with a smile and in the fast lane. Hunter loved driving and seeing the open road, but always “kept ‘er to the floor” to get home to his family.

Hunter was a proud husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Alyssa, children Brooklynn, Payton and Lincoln, his mother Sherry Krapfl, sister Kendall (Roscoe) Crittenden, and beloved nephew Archie Crittenden.

He was reunited in heaven with his father Gary Krapfl, father-in-law Dan Ernzen Sr., maternal grandparents Herb and Annie Tegeler, paternal grandparents Merle and Donna Krapfl, and best friend Jeric Clark.

 


 

James R. Oglesby

James R. “Jim” Oglesby, 87, of Cuba City, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 4, 2023, in Platteville, Wisconsin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 9, 2023, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Cuba City with Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Family and friends may call from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, January 8 at St. Rose of Lima Church where there will be a Parish Rosary Service at 12:40 p.m. Friends may also call from 9-10:15 a.m. Monday at the church prior to the service. Casey-McNett Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Cuba City is assisting the family.

Jim was born on May 16, 1935, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of William and Marvel (Lippstock) Oglesby. He was the youngest of six children. Jim’s early formal education took place in Dubuque parochial schools. At age 16, he began his working life that included employment with Pepsi Cola, Tri-State Paving and the Dubuque Packing Company. Jim was united in marriage to Nancy Rea on December 1, 1956. He embraced a lifelong commitment to learning and earned his GED in 1981.

Jim also operated his family farm from 1961 through 1994. He enjoyed many happy years in retirement which included traveling, playing cards and an occasional trip to the casino. Most of all, Jim loved good times with family and friends. He was well-loved and will be missed for the rest of our days.

Jim is survived by his wife, Nancy Oglesby, Cuba City; his children, Joe (Cheri) Oglesby, Cuba City, Kathy Neumeister, Platteville, Richard (Lori) Oglesby, Cuba City, Ken (Lisa) Oglesby, Mt. Horeb, WI, and Sherri Ramaker, Prairie du Sac, WI; a sister, Rita (John) Lesch; a sister-in-law, Marlene Oglesby; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren, with one on the way.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Lisa; a son-in-law, Jason Ramaker; three sisters, Jeanie (Calvin) Dutka, Ruth (Clete) Apel, and June (Vince) Owens; and a brother, Ronnie Oglesby.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Jeff White and the Southwest Health Center team for their compassionate care.

Barbara A. Mahe

Barbara Ann Mahe, 78, of Dubuque, died Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at her home.

A Celebration of Life will be from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory.

Barbara was born December 8, 1944, in Des Moines, IA, the daughter of Earl and Virginia Mildred Wright. On June 12, 1965, she married Louis Charles “Chuck” Mahe in Granada Hills, CA.

She was a homemaker. When her children were older, she worked as a secretary for Shell Oil Company while they lived in Houston.

Barbara had a passion for interior design and enjoyed shopping for her home. She loved anything floral and English rose garden themed. Christmas was her favorite time of year and that included watching Hallmark movies. Barbara loved her children and grandchildren beyond measure, and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her husband, Chuck; one son, John Mahe of Portland, OR; one daughter, Julie (Rob) Overcash of Bend, OR; three grandchildren, Chase Overcash, Ian Overcash, and Sophia Overcash; one brother, Richard (Denise) Wright of Los Angeles, CA; one sister, Patty (Bob) Matus of Los Angeles, CA; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

James R. Wright

James R. “Dick” Wright of Galena, Il, passed away, Tuesday, January 3, 2023.  In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public visitation or service.  A private family service will be held at a later date.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, is assisting the family.  He will be laid to rest at the Ft. Sheridan National Cemetery, Lake Forest, IL.

Dick was born December 30, 1937, in Kansas City, MO the only son of Robert and Grace (Mayfield) Wright.  He graduated from Kemper Military Academy, MO in 1957, and furthered his education at the University of Kansas.  He served in the United States Army from October 1959 through September of 1970.  Dick was awarded a Direct Commission in January 1962, while serving in Ethiopia.  He resigned from the military with the rank of Major in 1970.  He served his country honorably in Vietnam where he earned several medals.  After Vietnam, Dick worked at CNA Insurance Company, Chicago, IL, for 30 years, retiring as Vice President, Compliance Reporting. Dick was united in marriage to Esther Sutton on December 21, 1962, in Washington, D.C.

They were blessed with one daughter, Kimberly (Wright) Winkin, her husband, David Winkin, and one grandson, Conor Winkin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his most beloved aunt and uncle, James and Louise Crute, and five brothers-in-laws and one sister-in-law.

Dick made friends wherever he went.  His kindness is appreciated by so many, and he will be sorely missed by all.  He was quietly gifted in so many ways.  He loved accomplishing tasks he had never done before, such as building furniture pieces, creating his outdoor gardens, or taking care of nearly all mechanical problems in his home.  He especially reveled in helping his beloved daughter, Kimberly, and her husband, David, with any necessary home projects that came up for them.  He made certain to include his daughter and grandson in any project on which he was working.  That was a fun time for all to learn and enjoy time together.  His family meant everything to him.

The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be given to the Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, Chicago, IL; Dubuque Humane Society, or to any animal rescue of choice.

Patricia E. Schaible

Patricia Elaine Schaible, age 82, of Elizabeth, IL, passed away January 1, 2023 at her home from cancer. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Elizabeth.  Visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. before the service.  Interment will occur on a later date.  Family and friends are invited to share in Patsy’s life at lawjonesfuneralhome.com.

Patsy was born July 26, 1940 at Freeport Memorial Hospital, the daughter of Russell and Marjorie (Kleckner) Roberts.  She grew up in rural Elizabeth, attending a one room schoolhouse throughout grade school, before attending and graduating from Elizabeth High School with the class of 1958.  She married Delos Groezinger and together they had five children.  Patsy went to work for Jo Carroll Electric, then after her fourth child, she transitioned to a primary role of homemaker, while still working diligently on the bookkeeping for the family boat business.  Later in life, she married Rodney Schaible.  After Rodney’s passing, Patsy reconnected with her first husband, and they were together for their remaining years.

Never one to shy away from work and responsibility, Pat held numerous jobs and operated many businesses throughout her life.  She was a substitute rural mail carrier for a number of years, spent more than three decades as an EMT with the Elizabeth ambulance service, and served as a board member for the Elizabeth State Bank.  She opened her first antique shop in the late 70’s, in Elizabeth (a shop that would remain open until her passing). Over the years, she operated boutiques in Oregon, Dixon, and  Elizabeth, IL.  Pat was proud that through her endeavors, she provided all of her children the opportunity to go to college.

Pat was a super mom.  Always putting children and grandchildren first.  She was a lover of flowers, reading, antiques, fashion, and the great outdoors; especially the Mississippi River, where her family had a cabin.  She baked the best pies known to mankind (apple, rhubarb, and raspberry), and the tastiest catfish filets, freshly caught on the river.

Patsy is survived by two daughters, Sue (Dennis) Roberts, of Savanna, IL and Melody Groezinger, of Omaha, NE; son, Scott (Nicole) Groezinger, of DeKalb, IL; 11 grandchildren, Nick, Sam, Calvin, Clayton, Jordan, Joe, Randi, Holly, Vince, Emily, and Carson; 10 great grandchildren; two brothers, Norman (Doreen) and Fred (Diane); sister, Nancy (Maureen); and sister-in-law, Linda Roberts.

Patsy is preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Marjorie; daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Richard Theyerl; son, David Groezinger; sister and brother-in law Shirley and Robert Wetherill ; brother, Richard; and former husbands, Delos Groezinger and Rodney Schaible.

 


 

Mary J. Dotsch Frueh

Mary Jane Dotsch Frueh, 78, of Dubuque, died Monday, January 2, 2023, at her home.

Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory followed by a prayer service at 6:00 pm.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Mary will be at 10:30 am on Friday, January 6, 2023, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Steven Rosonke as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Key West.

Mary was born February 5, 1944, in Lansing, MI, the daughter of James and Lorna (Boudreau) Dotsch. On December 30, 1967, she married Leo Henry Frueh in Garden, MI.

She was a 1962 graduate of Holy Name High School in Escanaba, MI. In 1966, she graduated from the College of St. Scholastica with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

She worked intermittently as a nurse until 1983 followed by school nursing at Keystone Area Education Agency and then as a health care coordinator for children with special health care needs for Child Health Specialty Clinics of the University of Iowa. Most recently, Mary worked part-time registering patients arriving at Finley Hospital.

Mary was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church where she was involved in the choir and Haiti Committee. She had a special interest in spiritual activities and service, especially with small Christian community formation. She served in Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) in 1967 in West Virginia, where she met her husband Leo. She helped form Aquin Elementary PTA in Cascade and Birthright of Dubuque. She loved being with her grandchildren and family.

Survivors include her husband, Leo; three sons, Matt (Faby) Frueh of Newbury Port, MA, Ben (Celine) Frueh of Portland, ME, and Pete Frueh (Janette Leslie) of Richfield, MN; one daughter, Sara Frueh of Washington, DC; six grandchildren, Emmett, Declan, Jamie, Maria, Matias, and Lili; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Alan Dotsch and Roland Dotsch.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for St. Anthony’s Haiti Committee and Birthright of Dubuque.

Thomas Jansz

Our beloved Thomas “Tom” Jansz passed away peacefully on December 31, 2022, at home in the loving arms of his wife, Barb.  There will be a celebration of life at a later date in Galena, IL. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family.

Tom was born and grew up in Aurora, IL, with his two siblings, Denise ‘Ding” and Nicholas “Nick”, his parents, Al and Eileen Jansz, and his grandmother, Kathryn Kavanagh. Tom graduated from Aurora College in Aurora, Illinois. His professional career included working at multiple large U.S. companies. Tom met the love of his life, Barbara Raymond, in the summer of 1969. They married in April 1970 and have been married for 52 years.  They settled in Barb’s hometown, Naperville, and in 2002 retired to beautiful Galena, Illinois. Tom loved “his piece of heaven” in Galena and spent many hours working on his golf and tennis games while building an amazing group of friends in his community. Tom was an active Safe Haven Humane Society member, feeling indebted after adopting the amazing lab, Zeus. He led the organization for 6 years as President, during a critical time as it transitioned into its permanent home in Elizabeth, IL.  He will be remembered as an extraordinary and devoted husband, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, cousin, and friend. 

He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Barb, sister, Denise Ertsman, brothers-in-law, James and Robert Raymond, Mike Marusha, nieces and nephews, Nancy Creel, Sue Bentlage, Mary Pat Marusha Martin, James Raymond Jr., Lee Ertsman, Denny Ertsman, Kevin Ertsman, Katie Vannucci, Molly Vannucci, Irish Cousins Derek Kavanagh, Ed Kavanagh and his extended large Irish clan, the Kavanagh and Kane families in Dublin, Ireland where his mother Eileen was born. In addition, he leaves behind many other family and friends too numerous to list. 

He was preceded in death by his brother, Nicholas Jansz, brothers-in-law, Carl Ertsman, and Joseph Vannucci, and sisters-in-law, Marilynn Vannucci and Dolores Marusha. 

Tom is the best example of a life well-lived. He will forever be known as a wonderful husband and a loyal and devoted friend and family member.  He could always be relied on for great advice, a good laugh, and a love of desserts – all of which could be found in abundance with Tom.
