Marie M. Boleyn

Marie M. Boleyn (Klein) 92, of Dubuque, formerly of Ellis St and Applewood III, died Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at Oak Park Place in Dubuque.

There will not be a public service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Entombment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery on Friday, May 6, 2022

Marie was born December 25, 1929, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Anthony and Frances Arensdorff Klein.

On October 17, 1960, she married the love of her life, Roger Boleyn, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dubuque. He died November 19, 2003.

She was a meat wrapper at former Dubuque grocery stores, A&P and Randall’s. She did not mind spilling coffee on herself to keep warm from the freezer.

One of Marie’s favorite places was a St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She volunteered there and was a member of the Rosary Society. After it’s closing, she joined St. Anthony’s.

Marie was an excellent homemaker. She took pride in gardening, baking, and cooking. Her pork stuffing will continue as a holiday tradition.

After her husband passed, she moved to Applewood. She loved her friends and active social life there: morning coffee group, bingo, coloring, movies, and weekly parties in the Club Room.

She had an extensive record collection, Louis Armstrong and Guy Lombardo were her faves. A lifelong fan of the Cardinals (both baseball and the birds) and, of course, the Iowa  Hawkeyes.

Marie was a fun “Re Re” to her grand-dogs, Desmond, Sawyer, and Jack. Taking them shopping to pick out their own toys and even sending them cards on their birthdays.

Marie had a quick wit and was joking until the end.

Survivors include one daughter, Carol Boleyn (Don Ley) of Dubuque; two sisters, Margaret Mootz and Donna Klein both of Dubuque; one nephew, Cletus Mootz of Dubuque; one niece, Karen Mootz of East Dubuque, IL; relatives, Jay and Louann Bauck; and many nieces and nephews on the Boleyn side.

She was tough. She survived cancer twice, and just about everyone else. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and six brothers, Theodore, Robert, Richard, Donald, James, and John, brother-in-law, Cletus Mootz, and a niece, Debra Mootz, all of her cousins, and in-laws on her husband’s side.

Thanks to Hospice of Dubuque, especially Melissa G, for the extra TLC.

The family requests no flowers.

Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Crematory is in care of the arrangements.

Condolences can be sent to the family by visiting Marie’s obituary at www.hskfhcares.com.

Jonas battled heart disease for years and when he developed a sudden infection, he fought hard but, for the first time, something was stronger than him.

Jonas was always willing to stick up for his friends and family which sometimes got him in trouble, but it was well intentioned.

In recent years, Jonas could be found in the kitchen nearly all day.  He cooked from scratch and loved to experiment with new recipes for everyone to try. Some were better than you could find in any restaurant. He always said his secret was that it was made with love. He was known for drinking an absurd amount of Diet Coke, eating a pan of spaghetti and an entire Happy Joe’s large pizza (which he was quite proud of).  He loved a good tan and hunting for morels but most of all his grandchildren were the lights of his life.  They will sorely miss their “Papa”.

He is survived by his wife Julie and their two daughters, Ali of Dubuque and Reagan of Cuba City.  His son, Tony (Britney) Bandy; three grandchildren, Ryker, Dallas and Jonas; his mother Carol Bandy and his sister, Carrie (Dan) Kelly

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jonas W. Bandy memorial fund.

Thank you to the ER and ICU nurses, especially Tanya and Alicia at Unity Point/Finley who worked tirelessly to try to save him, but his body had simply been through too much.

The family would also like to thank Dr. Ewen and Dr. Khan for their compassionate care over the years.

Robert A. Stonskas Sr.

Robert A. Stonskas Sr., 95, of Dubuque, died Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at Stonehill Care Center.

A Farewell Toast Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 5, at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Road. Military Honors  will be conducted by the American Legion, Post 6 of Dubuque, at 11:30a.m. Friday, May 6 at the funeral home.

Robert was born on November 15, 1926, in Dubuque, the son of Peter and Pearl (Margadant) Stonskas.

He married Shirley McLennan on December 4, 1951, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Robert was the President, Founder, Chief Estimator and co-owner of MMC Mechanical Contractors for forty-four years until retiring in 2014.

Bob grew up during the Great Depression and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was ranked as PFC when he was honorably discharged in 1946. In 2013 he was picked to be on the Honor Flight to Washington DC.

He was a member of the Dubuque 660 Shooting Society, American Legion, Amvets, and the Elks Club. Bob enjoyed actively participating in all his clubs and spending time with great friends.

Bob worked until he was 88 years of age and lots of times having two jobs. A rock for the family that always showed strength. A person all of us could turn to in times of trouble, who had a calming demeanor, would help in any situation and assure you things would get better. His earthly body has left us now, but if you had the honor to be around him and listened, watched how he lived, that was the greatest gift he could give and something all of us can live by.

Robert was an avid reader. He enjoyed vacationing in the Wisconsin Dells in the summer and his winters in Florida. He cherished his Friday poker games with dear friends at Happy’s Place and at the Moose Lodge. Bob was a family man first and at one time owned a boat and enjoyed the Mississippi River but as the grandkids started arriving, it worried him that one might have a mishap in the water so he sold the boat and put a pool in his backyard. That turned into many parties and memories that will last a lifetime. He lived to be 95 and touched so many by a smile, joke, buying someone a drink or a compliment.

Bob is survived by his children; Roxanne (John) Klaas, Merry Anne (Bill Lange), Shirley Anne Schmitt, Bob (Lori) Stonskas Jr., all of Dubuque, Pete (Sarah) Stonskas of Park View, Iowa, sister; Pearl Seibert of Manchester, IA, sisters-in-law; Carolyn Stonskas of Texas, and Georgie O’Brien of East Dubuque, IL. He is also survived by twenty-two grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley Stonskas, brothers; Joe and Babe Stonskas; sister-in-law, Joann Elliott; brothers-in-law, Toby O’Brien, and Aldonn Seibert, and nephew; Joseph Stonskas Jr.

A Robert Stonskas Memorial Fund has been established.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at 3HH at Stonehill Care Center, and Hospice of Dubuque, especially Jeremiah, Amber, and Suzanne. Special thanks to Dr. Liaboe and Trish for all of the wonderful care given to Bob over the years.

So long Chairman of the Board, your loss will be felt, but what you gave to everybody will always be with us.
