Anthony Fiegen

Growing up, he was Tony. The oldest Fiegen boy. The one that looked like Val Kilmer. He was the most fashionable of the family, and the only one to become a cosmetologist like his dad. He was so kind, and quiet on the outside, but if you really knew him, you would know and love his goofy side. He loved to dance and sing along to old rock music. He had the biggest heart.

Tony was the most kind and thoughtful soul. He was always thinking of others and doing what he could for them. He was down for anything – watching movies at home or going out to eat good food or just driving around on a nice day.

After graduating from Loras College and Capri, he spent time teaching at Capri in Madison and worked several years as a director in Davenport. He later took an opportunity to move to Austria. There he met the love of his life, Heidi, who called him Anthony. They got married at the shooting club, and that was also the last place we all got to see him when we gathered on Thanksgiving.

Anthony had two amazing kids – Lucas, quiet and kind like his dad and Hana, outgoing and fun like her dad. He loved them more than anything. He hung their pictures all over his house, no matter how embarrassing. The bond they shared will be held onto into the next world.

Before he passed, Anthony was doing really well and was happy. He had just gone through brain surgery a month ago. He had quit drinking and was recovering…looking forward to another chance in life, a visit with his kids at Christmas, and getting a puppy.

We feel it is important to acknowledge the challenges he faced. Like many, he battled with depression and alcohol addiction, which were part of his journey but did not define him. Addiction is a complex disease that can take hold of even the most loving and caring individuals. For Tony, it was a struggle that he faced every day, but that did not stop him from giving it his best and trying to be better. It’s amazing how alcohol/addiction doesn’t care about love and who needs you. It doesn’t care that your parents shouldn’t have to bury another child. It doesn’t care that your kids and whole family adore you and want you around.

Our son, brother, and dad will be missed and remembered in so many wonderful memories. From his Harley riding days to his time working at the embassy in Austria, with security clearance, which he was so proud of. He made this world a better place with his caring heart and kindness.

Anthony was preceded in death by his sister, Erin. He is survived by his children, Hana & Lucas Fiegen, his parents, Linda and Charles Fiegen. His siblings, Matthew (Marcia) Fiegen, Chris Fiegen (Sara Weaver), Sara Fiegen, Kaity Fiegen and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday December 6th at 10:30 am at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

An informal Celebrations of Life will follow at Timmermans with food, family, and friends from 12-3pm.

Memorials may be given to NAMI Dubuque.

The Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home and Crematory is entrusted with arrangements.

Daniel J. Bastian

Daniel Joseph “Steeley” Bastian, age 73, of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey on December 2, 2025, at home while surrounded by his loving family.  To honor Dan’s life, a Celebration of Life will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at the Eagle’s Club, 1175 Century Drive in Dubuque.  A private family service will be held at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Dan’s family.

Dan was born on June 14, 1952, in Dubuque, IA, a son to Donald J. and Joyce (McCauley) Bastian.  He enjoyed life and made the most of each day as best he could.  Dan spent most of his working career as a tour bus driver for Bradley Jo Charters.  He was a very social person and possessed the perfect degree in BS which helped him meet new people and make friends quickly.

In his free-time, Dan found satisfaction in some of life’s simple pleasures.  A little time with his trusty fishing pole in hand was always time well spent, but an evening with his pool cue in hand as he sat on different leagues throughout the area was always a welcomed way to pass the time as well.  When time allowed, Dan and Jean would spend the weekends out on the boat and getting a little swimming in when the perfect sunny days were at hand.  Dan intentionally kept life as simple as he possibly could and appreciated each day which went his way.  We will miss Dan and his snarky sense of humor moving forward and do pray that he finds peace now from his earthly health battles he has faced so courageously.

Those left to cherish the memory of Dan include,

his dear friend and companion,
Jean McGeough, Dubuque, IA;

his sister,
Cheryl (David) Peacock, Dubuque, IA;

his nieces,
Jenni Fox, Dubuque, IA,
Julie Fox, Dubuque, IA,
and Brandi (Andrew) Ortel, Dubuque, IA;

his great-niece and nephews,
Elizabeth Resop, Patrick Resop and Owen Morgan;

his two great-great nephews,
Dallas and Weston;

along with numerous extended family, friends and neighbors.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents.

Dan’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Hospice of Dubuque for all of their professional and compassionate care.

Online condolences may be shared with Dan’s family at www.tristatecremationcenter.com

Charles E. Davis

Charles Edward Davis, 89, passed away Friday November 28, 2025 at his home in Scales Mound, IL.  Charles, Charlie, Chuck, Hopcaid, Governor; no matter what name you knew him by, to know him was to love him. Calm, quiet, caring, humble, and introspective, he didn’t say much, but when he spoke, you wanted to listen.

Lover of cheese and crackers, western movies, Kesslers, and most importantly his family.

Nearly famous for his Irish goodbyes, his wry grin, his frequent reminders of Jesus!, and his simple response of “huh”.

He was never the life of the party, but thoroughly enjoyed those who were willing to be. He was always the guy in the background, taking everything in.

No stranger to adversity, he lost his mother at age 3, had crippling polio as a child, and endured the pain of arthritis for most of his lifetime. All of this without a single complaint.

Even in his later years, he would out-work most everyone. Never one to be sitting very long, he could be found tinkering with his Model T and his tractors or otherwise keeping busy in his shop or on the farm. He always had a project, and would get on “the EBay” (internet) to learn how to fix things and find parts. He was humble enough to know what he didn’t know and wasn’t afraid to learn.

Being community-minded and service-oriented, he humbly served as the mayor of Scales Mound for 8 years, volunteered with the fire department, was a member of the Lions Club, and supported numerous community projects. He served in the US Army, stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, from 1954-56. As a “jack of all trades, he held jobs as a road commissioner, truck driver, mechanic, and farmer before building a successful business from the ground up with his wife, Susie. Davis Farm Supply began as a feed, farm chemical and fertilizer retail and application business, and soon expanded with the acquisition of Barker Lumber Company and the addition of an ag repair shop. After 55 years in business, he retired, trusting his business to his grandson Zach Winter.

He was preceded in death by his birth mother, Cleone (O’Neill) Davis, father Stanley Davis, and adoptive mother Marian (Bohnsack) Davis. Charles is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helene “Susie” (Einsweiler) Davis; children Julie (Dan) Schmitt, Susanne Davis, Sharon Winter, James (Lori) Davis, Daniel (Debra) Davis, Paula (Brent) Crane, and Charles David (Angela) Davis; sisters Loretta Steichen, Bette Schoenholtz and Linda (Greg) Lightcap; 18 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and special snowbird buddy Sue Dunphy.

He will be greatly missed by family, friends, the DFS cats, the neighborhood birds, and every “good boy, good boy” dog he ever met.

Family and friends may call from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home in Scales Mound, IL and from 9:30 – 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2025 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Scales Mound, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Robert Chinnapan officiating.  Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by members of VFW Post # 2665 and American Legion Post # 193 of Galena.

There will also be a visitation from 9 to 9:45 am Monday, December 1 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mt. Norma was born on July 12, 1929 in Dyersville, Iowa, daughter of August and Hilda (Krapfl) Joester. She graduated from Xavier High School. On September 4, 1954 she married the love of her life, Albert Kerper, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville. Together, they raised four children, Ellen, Dan, John and Mary Pat. While being a wife and mother was her primary calling, she also worked as a teacher’s aide at Hoover Elementary School and Younkers department store. Whatever her role, Norma’s presence brought love, humor and devotion to the task that was second to none.

As a wife, Norma supported Al in his 37 years of service to Amoco Oil Company and his 20 years of service to the Navy. After the kids started school, she worked as a teacher’s aide at Hoover Elementary School. She often recalled her favorite students and many of them remembered her. As office manager at Younkers, she was the first employee to be named Employee of the Year. Following their retirements, Norma and Al enjoyed winters in Texas with friends and trips to Europe and Australia.

Mom wanted nothing but the best for her children and grandchildren. She gave us the gift of faith and from that, an unparalleled devotion to family. In 1974, her son John was diagnosed with leukemia, and she spent several weeks with him in Madison, WI for treatment. John died in 1975, almost 50 years to the day she was reunited with him.

Mom made everyone feel special. She took genuine interest in the lives of everyone she met and could make even a stranger feel at home. She developed lifelong friendships while playing golf and bridge, and the holiday celebrations she hosted were filled with fun for extended family and friends. We are blessed with many “lessons from Mom” that will remain with us for the rest of our lives. The examples of  faith, love, and strength are forever imprinted on the family. Faith in God and love of family will continue to be our guiding lights.

She is survived by her children Ellen (Steve) Baumhover, Dan (Joanne) Kerper, and Mary Pat Kerper; grandchildren John (Sara) Baumhover, Andy (Katie) Baumhover, Elizabeth Kerper (partner Brian Riggins) and Allison Kerper (fiancé Valmik Patel); great grandchildren Claire, Will, Frances, Jacob, Zach, Cris and Ashlyn; her sister, Mary Maiers; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Al; her son, John; her brother, James Joester; and many sisters- and brothers-in-law.

Friends and family who with to honor Norma’s memory may make a donation to St. Joseph the Worker Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Stonehill Care Facility and MercyOne Medical Center for their wonderful care. The family would also like to thank the friends and neighbors for all their support for the past few months.
