Geraldine A. Anthony

Geraldine Ann “Gerry” Anthony, age 88, of Galena, IL completed her earthly journey on March 3, 2022, at the Galena-Stauss Nursing Home, while surrounded by her loving family. To honor Gerry’s life, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 14, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., St. Walter Catholic Church, 130 W. Pine St., Roselle, IL, with Fr. Mario Quejadas officiating. For those who cannot be attendance, the mass will be live-streamed at https://www.stwalterchurch.com. Burial will be following the mass at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Cemetery, 1185 W. Algonquin Rd. Palatine, IL.

Gerry was born on July 25, 1933, in Chicago, IL, eldest daughter to Nicholas and Betsy (Cukierski) Mueller. She was the oldest of 8 children and instrumental in their nurturing, care and development.  She enjoyed playing softball in high school and favored the Chicago White Sox baseball team. Gerry was raised to have a love and devotion to God, family and friends from a very early age and this was a trait that she carried throughout her entire 88 years.  She raised three beautiful, strong, and independent daughters, while reinforcing the importance of carrying beauty not only on the outside for the world to see, but more importantly on the inside for the world to witness even more.  Her romantic heart was never hardened and the loving kindness she so generously shared in real life was akin to her favorite stories she would watch on the Hallmark channel.  Gerry worked in the vending hospitality industry for many years and took pride in her work and the people she mentored and worked beside.  She was a proud member of the Senior Group at St. Francis of Assisi in Bolingbrook, IL, and always appreciated the opportunity to fellowship whenever possible. Gerry treasured her time with family. She enjoyed cooking for them and could light up a room with stories and her contagious smile and laugh.  Our Mother Mary held a special place in her heart, and she would pray the rosary often. Gerry adored angles especially her guardian angel and now we pray that she has met hers in person.  It’s difficult to imagine a world without our beloved matriarch leading the way, but we know that the Lord will keep her safe in His loving arms until we meet her again.  Thank you, Gerry, for being the exact amount of love and light the world around you needed. May your reunion with all of your loved ones who’ve been called home ahead of you be even more glorious than we could even imagine.  We love you; we miss you, and we will treasure every memory forever more.

Those left behind to cherish the memory of Geraldine include,

First and foremost, Rose was a loving wife and mother.  Although she had various occupations after her children were raised, her main focus was always Paul and her children.  They were her world.  Outside of work, Rose loved getting involved in a variety of activities that often involved family such as bowling leagues, golf at Lacoma, oil painting, and seasonal crafting get-togethers with the grandkids.  Rose loved all kinds of crafting and artistic creativity.  She was a gifted painter and made many crocheted blankets.  Weekends often meant staying up late to watch classic movies with her children, and later on, with any of the grandchildren that were having a sleepover.  Rose also loved shopping.  But more than any of those, Rose enjoyed holiday family gatherings.  Every holiday meant a house decorated to the utmost, filled with children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and enough food to feed an army.  At any point during these gatherings, one could find Rose sitting with a child sitting on her lap and a song and smile on her lips.  When family wasn’t visiting, Rose always had her dogs and cats for company.  Every moment with Rose was first met with a song and a “what do you need”.  Her life’s focus was unconditional love and care for her family.

Sadly his father was called home much to early and the burden was quite devastating on the family.  Ken eventually found his way into town at a young age and began putting the strong work ethic and moral compass he was raised with to work.  He spent almost his entire working career in the metal recycling business.  He enjoyed it most days and made many new friends along the way.  Ken was always proud to have a family of his own and when his beautiful bride, Donna Jean, passed, Ken found a little piece of him had left as well.  He kept fighting ongoing health issues for many years, but knew that soon only his memory would remain for those he loved to cherish daily.  Ken was a very outgoing and social person his entire life.  A friendly conversation over a cup of coffee with friends was always considered to be time well spent to Ken.  He also enjoyed country music, watching the eagle’s fly overhead, but most of all, spending time with his family.  Ken was a generous and noble man who would help anyone in need and never kept a record, just lived each day and moment from the heart.  We will miss Ken more than words could honestly express and are forever grateful for each extra day the Lord shared our fearless leader with us.  Thank you, Ken, for teaching us all that true joy and success in life isn’t found in shiny objects as much as it is in real moments.  May the Lord keep you safe in His loving arms until we all meet again.

Those left behind to cherish the memory of Ken include,

his children,
Tabatha (Jason) Kircher, Dubuque, IA,
Kenneth (Leanndra) Hines, Jr., Dubuque, IA,
Sara (Jason) Hines, Platteville, IA,
Luke (Stacy) Hines, Dubuque, IA,
and Andrew Anderson, Dubuque, IA;

his 19 grandchildren;

his sister,
Ida (Buck) Markus;

along with numerous extended family, friends, and neighbors.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Donna J. Hines; and 16 brothers and sisters.

Ken’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Hospice of Dubuque for all of their professional and compassionate care of Ken and his family.

Ruth Jones

Whether you’ve heard of Ruth Jones or not, you definitely heard from her if you attended a church service, Fabulous Fridays, a wedding, or a funeral at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church between 1950 and 2003, when its pipe organ music became a ministry unto itself.  You would have experienced the majesty of organ music pouring forth from its pipes, and then been taken aback by the diminutive organist–both intense and smiling–mastering its keys and foot pedals.

Ruth Graham Collister was born on January 17, 1927, in the family home in Pueblo, Colorado, as the eighth child (with one more to come) of Eva Viola McGowan Collister and Rev. Thomas Charles Collister. The Methodist church moves its ministers around so the family later found itself living in  parsonages in Plymouth, Iowa, and then Cedar Rapids where her father passed away.

Ruth earned a two-year degree at Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri, and she completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of Iowa.  There, she met her future husband, LaMar E. Jones, and would soon  start a new life in Dubuque, Iowa.

An accomplished professional organist, Ruth served as the local President of the American Guild of Organists and taught organ at Loras College.  She was also active as a Cub Scout Den Mother and in the nonprofit “PEO,” which she steadfastly maintained stood for “People Eat Onions” (we could tell you but then we’d have to kill you, and you’d have to take it up with Ruth herself).  She also worked for American Trust and Savings Bank, first as a teller and then retiring after many years in the Trust Department.

While her music ministered to untold families at both the best and worst times of their lives, that was far from her only legacy.

Ruth Jones did all of this while raising the four Jones boys who now survive her:  Ric (Sue) Jones of Dubuque; Tom Jones of Fruitland Park, Florida; Rob (Valerie) Jones of Pewaukee, Wisconsin; and Bill (Nicola) Jones of Denver, Colorado.

In addition to her sons, Ruth is survived by eight grandchildren: Jason (Angie) of Marion, Iowa; Jennie (Nick) Schwartz of Dubuque; Allie Jones of Fruitland Park, Florida; Hillary Jones of Mooresville, Indiana; Emily (Colin) Vaughan of Indianapolis, Indiana; Chloe Chambers of Pewaukee, Wisconsin; Conall Chambers of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; and Trenton Sparks of Duncan, Oklahoma; six great grandchildren; and her brother, Emmett (Barbara) Collister of Mt. Prospect, Illinois, and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was predeceased by: husband LaMar Edgar Jones (April 3, 1923 – July 31, 1994); premature daughter Laura Christine Jones; daughters-in-law Mary Jones and Anne Jones; and siblings Lauress C. Collister; John R. Collister; A. Vannin Collister; Roland Paul Collister; William B. Collister; Larew M. Collister; and MaryBeth Weisberg.

The family plans to hold a celebration of the life of Ruth Jones this summer when travel is safer and surer.  We promise to let you know the details in this space.  Ruth’s deathcare is being provided by Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home.

A celebration of the life of Ruth Jones will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2022, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 1199 Main St., Dubuque. Ruth’s deathcare is being provided by Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home.

The enormity of our loss is surpassed only by the love she so willingly shared, love that lives on in her colleagues, caregivers, friends and family.  To honor Ruth Jones, please spread love generously, accept others willingly (even eagerly), and support great organizations like Hospice of Dubuque and Bethany Home, where Ruth’s gifts of love were richly reciprocated.
